Spiders

Does anyone else here notice how many spiders there are, EVERYWHERE? I am not aracnaphobia or anything but i cannot say i like spiders either. There are webs all over the city greenery and i find spiders of all sizes in my apartment too! Teeny alost invisible ones to some that span the palm of my hand. CREEPY! I do leave the windows open during the day so its my own fault but...

If you do have them in your apartment as well, how do you deal with them? I am thinking of buying screens for my windows as that will probably solve the problem. I didn't have this issue in any of my last apartments, although i do live in a very green block now and my neighbors above me have more plants than they probably know what to do with. EEEK!

I have arachnophobia. I did notice that this year there has been more 8 legged crawelers than usual.

I deal with them the following way:

1) Wake up and see spider inside the bathroom, grinning and giggling in tiny voice "hihihihihi you have noooooooooooo idea where I have been while you were asleep"

2) proceed to grab nearest blunt object (chair would be ok)

3) Scream in tough voice: "HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUSBAND! GET HERE AND DO YOUR MANLY JOB OF PROTECTING YOUR WIFE!"

4) Add in normal voice "Try not to kill her, though."

5) Proceed to close myself in the furthest room.

6) End up looking over my shoulder the following week.

It’s not an easy life...*sigh*

Don't kill them as they are actually your friends, they eat all those insects that would bite you.

Good news is, if you have many spiders in your flat it means that you live in a healthy mostly chemical-free place. Actually, if you don't have any spider in your house you should be worried and they help you reduce the number of flies and mosquitoes.

That being said, I hate them as well

Yes, my whole family spent the last decades repeating that. For those of us with a phobia, though, the unpleasant itch of a mosquito bite is preferable to the panic, sweats, paranoia and tachycardia provoked by the sight or proximity to a spider.

As long as they keep out of sight, spiders can be your friend anytime. They will approach my domain at their own risk.

I seem to have quite a collection myself this year. A medium size female house spider living in a corner of my bedroom. An Orb spider that's made itself at home in the doorway of my living room, and a massive male giant house spider that patrols the living room periodically.

My GF is going to go mad when she gets back tonight

YAY ME!!! I do not hate spiders but I feel for you girls...

Hot weather - more flies - more flies, more spiders.

Here's a vid to keep you company.

Carlos, that is just nasty The mere static image of that youtube video make my heart go boom, in a non-Rihanna way.

I must leave this thread before I collapse...

None yet in our flat, the other half has to get rid of them as I am terrified of all insects...my legs actually go weak when I see them....pathetic I know!

I used to work with a girl, who would go apeshit if you drew a circle on a piece of paper, then started to slowly draw the 8 legs, one by one.

I suppose in fairness, I really should have untied her from the chair and not sewn her eyelids open.

But hey, what's a productive working environment without the occasional harmless office prank eh?

I see around 30 spiders on a wooden bridge near us. Im scared of the big ones but not the tiny ones which we have here. Yesterday i cleaned the outside of our windows but this morning theres 3 cobwebs again. My husband is afraid of them and he ́s the one who screams "honey! rescue me!" I dunno what would happen if we both see a big spider...we would both run hysterically out of the building carrying our babies

I don't like them on me but enjoy having them around and watching them build their webs.

The only ones I dispose of are hunting spiders that have the misfortune of trekking around my workbench. I keep small lab jars of acetone and benzine there; discovered that a drop of benzine kills instantly. Acetone is a different story: I snatched up a ~1cm hunter in tweezers and dropped him in the acetone jar.... the little beast ran laps around the bottom of the jar ! Grabbed him out and he was a bit groggy but came to. It was euthanasia by benzine then.

Bloody hell. HTFU!

I have "recently" grown to have some problems with spiders, it started happening in Florida where they were big enough that I could hear the tapping of their feet if they skittered across a piece of paper and has grown further here as I've helped my m-i-l with various garden related things.

The first fall after I moved here, we went to hubby's grandma's home to shake the plums from the tree, of course, many many spiders came raining down along with the plums. I was not comfy with this at all!

More recently, when at the tram stop, one of the lovelies who was positioned in a fantastic spot for catching flies decided to drop down... right toward my head. This sort of thing has happened a few times to me here, so, yes, I have acquired a growing dislike of spiders here.

This one though is a beauty! We used to have some tarantulas in a terrarium when I was in 2nd grade in the US. Very neat to watch!

The little ones don't scare me either. The big ones don't really scare me but they do creep me out. If there is someone else around to taske care of it then great but if not then i ahve to do it myself! Except today i went to get a chair bc there was a spider the size of my fist on my bathroom ceiling and when i came back he was gone! Which means he could be anywhere at this point. Hopefully i can find and get it outside before i go to bed! It would take a large show to kill this guy so i think ill get a glass and guide him to the outdoors instead.

Dude, what about all the slugs??!!! I swear it must be mating season because I see tons of them along the river near my house.

I am not a fan of spiders and keep most of our windows closed at all times as, especially on my daughter's windows, there's a very large number of them of rather goodly size who set up shop there due to the proximity to a nearby streetlight. I keep the drapes closed, too, as all you see are giant spiders out her window. I noticed a lot more of them around in this hot weather, too, especially indoors. I sleep with one eye open.

Btw, what's a 'hunter' spider? I'm too creeped out by that tarantula vid to google for it.

Fast little buggers that don't sit around in a web waiting for lunch, they go find it .

I think last time I saw i-b-deborah and told her I know there are some really scary creeps down under, she thought I was trying to offend her (which I seriously wasn't). Since my dear New Zealand friends decided to show me some videos and share some stories on a common Australian poisonous running spider that likes to crawl under you clothes and... F@CKING RUNS towards you, I had nightmares for weeks.

Gimme snakes, mice, coackroaches, centipedes, anything. But keep 8 legged bastards away from me... brrrr...

*I think I'm gonna grab the RAID bottle while at work...*
