Spiez or Interlaken restaurants recommendation

Dear all,

I am searching for a trip with Golden Pass Line that I think we will travel further from Zweisimmen to have lunch in Spiez. I remember the town as a lovely one but have no idea about eating places there. Could anyone recommend one? Not so expensive clearly....else in Interlaken but I thought it is very touristy so maybe better to eat in Spiez before reaching Interlaken.

Thanks all.

Interlaken *is* very touristy (I find it the most touristy place I've encountered so far in Switzerland) - but on the other hand, there are lots of lunch options, and the prices are probably no different to anywhere else in the 'touristy' areas.

I think your reasoning is interesting, but in reality it may be just as easy to choose something from the million options in Interlaken, than having lesser options in Spiez.

And if you go to Brienz your options drop to about 3. (Been-there-done-that)...

If you want a place with a fantastic view, decent prices and food, friendly servers that speak English - try Pizzeria Lido (they have more than pizza of course). We like to stop there on our way to or from Interlaken. Website with pics here .

If you like mexican food. There is a very good mexican restaurant in Interlaken, El Azteca.

I second the Lido (between Spiez and Leissigen). We have eaten there often and last year we had the most perfect table, right next to the lake. It was one lunch time and there was a man in a small boat finishing very close to the edge of the lake. All the people sitting outside watched in fascination as the fisherman battled for about 5 minutes to land a fish that was putting up a bit of a fight. When he finally got it in the boat, quite a few people started to him for his efforts. The clapping stopped quite abruptly when he whacked the fist over the head with a metal rod, then through it into an cooler box.

Just looked back over my previous post and I don't know what I was thinking!

Small boat 'fishing' not finishing.

A few people started to 'clap' him.

Threw not through.

Another option if it's a nice day: get the local train one stop from Spiez to Mülenen and go up the Niesen. The restaurant at the top is good (standard Bergrestaurant menus and prices) and the view is fantastic.

If you are travelling by train you can rule the "Lido". You would have to walk quite a bite to get to it.

There are quite a fews restaurants at the lake in Spiez (walking distance from the station 10 minutes). In Interlaken, there are several options. If you like Italian food, go to the "Arcobaleno" in Unterseen, 10 minutes from the station Interlaken-West. For classical mixed Swiss-French-Style I think the restaurant "Casino". is quite good. Or if you get out the train at Interlaken Ost you could got to the "du Lac", next to the station.

Thanks all for the recommendations. Yes, we will be travelling by train, and as Spiez (I remember it to be quite scenic) is the first stop after a long journey, I thought to eat there rather than Interlaken. But if you have really good experience in Interlaken that the meal does not cost a bomb, please post it here....thanks!

Yesterday at 12:23 I walked out of Interlaken West railway station, turned right and about 100 meters away found the large MIGROS

shop with a self service restaurant on ground floor. It is also possible to eat outside, the street has reduced traffic and is quiet.

Hot buffet, cold buffet, salad bar, cake buffet, 3 menu meals available.

I took the fish and chips (Deep fried perch and squid) from the hot buffet & a soft drink from the dispenser for SFR 10.50

A cake of the day (Identified with a small flag) and a coffee costs SFR 4,50

Recommended! Good quality, cheap and fast food, a comfortable and quiet restaurant.

.

Thanks. Indeed, Migros restaurant has become the ultimate choice if one just wants to have a meal and nothing fancy...not only in Interlaken but anywhere in CH I think. There are of course Manor and Coop too...

If El Azteca (above) is the one I`ve been too, I`ll agree that it`s pretty good.

And the Döner kebabs on the way to Migros at Interlaken West are awesome - don`t even have to cross the street.

But my fave is the Farmer Burger at Hooter`s - beef, fried egg & bacon. Best view in town (not the girls, the Jungfrau). Double-check your bill - the girls are stupid. Actually, that`s an affront to stupid people, but oh well.

The way the fisherman killed the fish was in accordance with the laws of Switzerland. It is strange but catching and releasing the fish back to the lake is considered crueller treatment, against being beaten to death with a truncheon! Once caught, the fish are not allowed to be put back into the water!
