Sprungli Chocolate, worth it to buy back as souvenir?

Hi,

I heard that good chocolate should be eaten fresh. Just wondering if it is still worth it to buy those packaged one for my friends/relatives to try it back in my country?

Thanks!

definitely, especially the wafer roll with the chocolate stuffing !

did you mean Gaufrettes??

oh a definite must!

chocolates stay 'fresh' for at least a week.

If you are ever in the area of Monchaltorf please stop at the local backery, its in the middle of the town, they have the most divine pralines, which has a high content of pure cocoa butter - i dont know its name, but its always in a brown box with a orange lid, 10 pieces, Sfr 20 ........worth every rappen!

Looks like theres quite a number of choco lovers here haha thanks for the help and recommendation. I will probably buy back some sprungli choco then.

If you are in the Zurich area, there is also the Lindt chocolate factory I would try, especially if you have to buy different boxes: they are a bit cheaper than in supermarket and still amazing!

Lindt & Sprungli are the same firm now. Lindt make the chocs and Sprungli the other confections.

So your question I think is about Sprungli Luxemburgli.

It's not the chocolate that they recommend you consume within a day or two, it's the Luxemburgli which are like mini merengues with fondant in between.

These are nice to take home as gifts to the UK as it's shorthaul (you can buy them at the airport). They're not common in the UK so a bit of a novelty. (That said, when I gave some to my cousin, she said "Ooh macaroons")

They're also quite quite expensive. I bought the biggest box you can get for the first time I met my girlfriend's mother. Sadly it was a waste of money as she didn't have a sweet tooth.

I think Lindt chocs are not so special as they available more easily in many countires outside Switzerland

when friends in the US asked for Swiss chocolate I just took them the chocolate bars in the tourist-gratifying Swiss-Mountains-Covered-in-Snow wrappers.

I also took Basler Läckerli which didn't last long at the office.

Lindt sold outside Swissieland is often made in other countries (for example France ) and it tastes more like

Yes, definitely worth bringing back chocolate. Easiest way is a just to get it from the Sprungli booth in the middle of Zurich airport on your way home. Plus they give you free tasters!! yumm

Thanks for the recommendation on the Lindt factory but like what higgybaby say, Lindt is available in my country so its kind of not as 'special' if I bring back for them. Anyway, I dont think I will be getting Luxemburgli back as I will travel for another 6days before heading back. So Lindt and Sprungli are the same company now, is there any difference in their chocolate then? Any recommendation from Sprungli besides Gaufrettes that I can bring back?

Thanks!

Sprungli is really expensive stuff. There are loads of places that sell Swiss chocolate with more value for money.

Only reason to get Sprungli apart form the macaroon looking stuff is the Buttzopf. Not sure I spel that right. But it is a woven bread like thing and is absolutely heavenly. Usually take 4-5 loafs back to UK whenever I go home for the weekend.

That said, Lindt chocolates made in Switzerland definitely are better than the ones outside plus more choice e.g. according to my choc loving monster friend, 95% cocoa chocolate is rare to find and I bought her one from Switzerland with ease. On trying to find one in UK it was nigh on impossible to find one. 65% was the highest I found. But like I saw you find more choices of Lindt chocolate here in Schweiz.

Last point, Frey is very good chocolate as well.

Thank you all for the information on chocolate souvenirs. I am returning home soon and have been racking my brains for what souvenirs to bring back.

grumpygit, after reading your recommendation of the wafer roll filled with chocolate stuffing, i finally stepped into a Lackerli Huss (after 10 months in Switzerland!) and got to sample some of them. They are really good. My husband had tried the ones with dried fruit but they have run out of it as it is a limited special for summer. No chance to go to a Sprungli store yet though.

Will be trying the chocolates recommended. Been eating only Callier chocolates after being to their factory a few months ago. The only problem is chocolates are heavy so can't bring much home, so will have to prioritise.
