St. Gallen restaurant recommendation

Hi,

We are organising a trip to St. Gallen, and are looking for a restaurant in which to have a mid day meal on a Saturday for a group of 20-25 people.

Preferably it should be in the old town and not too expensive. This will be my first visit to St. Gallen so I have no experience of where to eat.

If any members have any recommendations I would be very grateful.

Hi Bic,

A favourite place of mine is focacceria on Metzergasse. It's an Italian sandwich bar and they'll make the sandwich to your order in front of you. I believe they also have table service for larger groups so that you'll all get your order at the same time. You may want to double check that and also make a table reservation. They also have soups, salads, some desserts, and anti-pasta plates. Expect to pay about CHF 12.- for a medium sandwich and drink. En Guete! chris

Had to bring a friend in St. Gallen once and everything was closed (I think we went there on a holiday or something) except for this pizzeria close to the entrance of the unterergraben parkplatz. They have a lot of seating in the "cellar" area. I forgot the name. Perhaps Chris could chime in if he knows the name of the place.

Ok I found it:

Pizzeria Boccalino

Burggraben 20

9000 St. Gallen/SG

Postfach 415

9004 St. Gallen

Cheers,

Edwin

When in St Gallen I prefer to eat upscale or at home (or snack in said focaccieria - i used to live in the building of that place). Nontheless, some cheap central options are

Molino , Marktplatz - italian, pizzeria, its a chain but not such a bad one

US Mex , Marktplatz - well, i really prefer more upscale so dont expressly recommend, but they are ok apt at serving tex-mex at reasonable prices and to lots of people at the same time so it is good for groups

Marktplatz , Neugasse - mixed basic menu, some traditional fare, some barfood, good quality for ok prices

Colony or Cafe Neugass (same owner) also has food and big outdoor terraces that could be nice. No idea about group capacity though, its been a while.

If you find yourself without the group and a better budget I recommend Netts or David . That is good dining.

Well, enjoy SG.
