St-Gingolph, Valais

Hello!

I'd like to ask you a few questions about life in St-Gingolph, Valais.

Occasionally I'm seeing somewhat more affordable homes for sale in this town (the opposite side of the Geneva lake, the Swiss-French border). It seems like the travel time to Lausanne is about 40-50 min by car which is not too bad. The commute by train seems to be possible but lengthy (2 hours). And it faces the lake after all.

Having in mind very high prices on the Northern part of the Geneva lake it seems like an option to consider.

I wonder if anyone,

- has thought about moving to St-Gingolph from the Northern part of the Geneva lake but ultimately decided not to (and why?)

- has actually moved there and is happy/regretful about it (and why?)

It seems like a small town therefore I am not sure if I will get too many responses here yet maybe there are some folks who can relate to this.

If it sounds too good to be true, it's probably on the French side of the border. A lot of people try advertising French property in the border zones, beware!

Yes, but some of them are clearly on the Swiss side.

Look at where the sun rises and sets.....

Commuting is a bitch, there are all the frontaliers who come though here for working upto Morges, and then they go home, all at the same times.....

Traffic there is known to be bad. Hence the efforts to get the "Tonkin" rail line reinstated between Evian and St. Gingolph.
