…let’s see… I moved here 1st of March and immediately applied for internet connection.
People have had fun, baked a baby, delivered the thing and I still havnt got my internet hooked up.
The reason: Even if you have a DSL connection in the house it cant be hooked up if cable is a-coming.
But!
Like the rapture the installation keeps getting pushed back and pushed back and now the cable company has gone tits up.
So no internet on my own anytime soon, luckily the neighbor has let me piggyback on his wifi but they are moving out.
Yesterday I got an add for starlink and would like to ask if amybody is using the service?
Seems almost too good to be true, 100mbs unlimited data and 29€ per month.
I use it on overlanding/rallies… pretty stable at 120-150km/h driving through the Sahara desert.
I don’t orient it, just bolted to the spare wheels on the roof rack, flat… and it works.
Upload speeds aren’t amazing (close to 30mb/s), but they are ok.
you can also check 5G coverage and available unlimited data plans. I don’t know which one would be better if you have the choice of both, but 5G usually works indoors, whilst Starlink have to be installed outside and knock the woods your balcony is on the right side of the building
There is no G5 coverage in Applevillage.
As temporary solution it may work. Provided the antenna can be pointed in the right direction and no obstructions. As longer term solution, terms and conditions may change.
About 4G/5G, is it completely out of area of coverage or just poor reception? Booster antennas /(vertstärker antenne) that amplify poor signals might work.
Woah… backpedal here. I think we need to know more, with pictures.
You just noticed? I think he’s been doing that for years on EF.
Pictures of what? the rally or the starlink? Here’s some “static” shots of the rally (when we were stuck basically)… If you look closely at the third one, you will see the white starlink on the rear spare wheel on the roof.
The mini is really forgiving in terms of orientation. I literally had it sat on top of the car, flat. No orientation whatsoever. It worked in cities between buildings, parked against hotel sides (as close to the bedroom as possible), and even under (light) foliage of trees.
It doesn’t like being in a tunnel, and is hit and miss when you are at a petrol station with a roof… but otherwise, we even live streamed most of the rally ![]()
Rally, I love that sort of thing.
Rally Lite…dune bashing in the Empty Quarter, landing on 1-1/2 wheels. Tried to haul it out with one of the other 4x4s, also stuck. Four people dug for an hour. Thought we were stranded. Saved by locals who happened to be excavating sand in the middle of nowhere.
That dozer is some serious hardware! We ended up digging + sand ladders for 3-4 hours at one point…
Lookong for a starry eyed and awed emoji.
Thank you kindly.
