Staying in another canton during the week for work... permit question

Hi. This is a question that has always confused me. Since I will be soon in this condition I want to make it clearer.

I have a permit from my domicile canton VS. I work in canton BE. Before, I commuted every day between VS and BE, so there is no problem.

But soon, this situation will change. I will still have my domicile at VS (as I don't want to change my "center of interest" of my life which is in VS (family, friends... they are all in VS). I will still work in BE during the day of the week. The difference is that I will not come back home in VS every day, I will only go to VS at weekends.

What makes it more complex is that, I won't sleep in BE in the week. I will sleep in canton FR, as my partner has an apartment there.

So my pattern will be this:

Workdays: day: BE, evening and night: FR

Weekends: VS

Am I allowed to do like this with only the permit issued from VS?

I know a couple of friends do this: returning to the domicile canton only in weekend, without notifying any commune/canton. But I do not know if we are allowed to do this without any notification?

I found the following legal source (in 142.201, Ordonnance relative à l’admission, au séjour et à l’exercice d’une activité lucrative).

It says that this kind of séjour hebdomadaire (who stay during the week outside the domicile place due to the job, but do not want to change their interest canter) should announce it within 14 days to the authority in the new place, if this kind of stay happens more than 3 months per year.

Also then in my case it's more complicated as 3 cantons are involved.

Another important question is that: will this cause any difference in terms of tax? (e.g. I still pay my tax in VS, right?)

Anyone has some experience?

Hi,

My husband lives and works in Lausanne during the week and returns to Zurich at weekends.

His main residence is classed as being in Zurich (with the family) and he has a document provided by the Gemeinde in Zurich stating this. He had to register with the authorities in Lausanne and show this document. Each year he renews this document. His taxes are governed by Zurich.

I know your situation is slightly different but I hope this helps!

Thanks a lot.

Maybe I should do the same. The only thing is that I don't know I should register my temporary residence in which canton (BE or FR). I think it is FR as I stay there all the evenings/nights of workdays, and for BE I'm only there 8h every day for work.

Perhaps stop by or call the municipality where your partner resides and ask them? It's a bit complicated but since that's where you will sleep/reside I think they might be the best place to start.

mmmmh! Sounds so familiar

Lives in Zürich, works in Luzern and Weekends in Bern

only registered in Zürich though!
