When PostFinance added quarterly fees to their 2nd pillar pension accounts, I decided to move mine to Stiftung Auffangeinrichtung BVG https://web.aeis.ch/ from the recommendations here. Very late getting around to it, so the account was only opened up November last year... but it's now late April and they have still not provided the account statement for 2020 for my taxes.
I have contacted them via their website but will have to find some time to call them soon. I'm located in Canada, so a bit far and the Google reviews I'm seeing for this Stiftung now have me worried what I have done with my pension. It's going to be a little while until I'm back in Switzerland and can yell at them in person.
Is anyone else still waiting for this info for their taxes? I'm annoyed. I already have the PostFinance info since ages and just waiting on this in order to do my American taxes for 2020.
The Auffangeinrichtung BVG is essentially the default solution for anyone who forgets to indicate where their pension amounts need to be transferred to. If you simply want to keep the pension amount as cash, there are banks that offer better interest. If you have a new employer, you could/should move it to the new pension system (unless you want to invest this pension money separately).
Regarding your question: You should have received an account statement by now. However, from a "Swiss tax perspective", you would not need such statement for your taxes since the vested pension amounts are not taxable until they are paid out. I would put down the reason for you not receiving the account statement yet:
- administrative inertia;
- timing issues, i.e. if your pension funds were only transferred to the new account at the beginning of this year.
