Stolen papers....:(

My car was hacked abroad, my bag was stolen and I had my personal papers in it (residence permit, car registration permit).

I have a complaint made abroad. How can I arrange the rest here?

Thank you for your answers.

Complaint = being reported to the police?

AFAIK with that you can get a replacement permit. Probably the same with car papers (Verkehrsamt??) but probably a more expert person will be around soon to help you with this

How did you get back home?

Send an email to the StVA and ask if the foreign police report is good enough to get a new gray card. Then get/order a new one.

Ask you commune if the foreign police report is good enough to get a new permit card. Then get/order a new one.

If you have travel insurance and/or insurance covering theft of your goods while they are not in your home, some of the expenses you will now incur (for new cards, etc.), may be covered.

You take the police report to your Gemeinde and they will organise a new residence permit.

For the car paperwork I guess the same - take it to the registration office and they will sort it out.

For re-entry to Switzerland, it sounds like you didn't lose your passport, so that will make it possible to get back in usually.

I had this happen, needed the French police report, Swiss police report residence permit replaced within a couple of weeks.

I will travel back to Switzerland tomorrow and after that I will replace my papers.

I have a document on the police report.

Do they need to be translated into German?

I have to look through my insurance papers at home in what I find for this case.

...with my car...

Luckily, I also have a photo of my license.

I lost my permit once. No idea how or where but it just wasn't in the place I normally kept it or in any other place that I looked either.

I went to the police office and they wrote a report taking down my statement. It was just a sheet of A4 paper with a police letterhead and saying exactly what i had told them and with an official looking stamp and signature underneath. There was nothing burocratic about it. I took that to my Gemeinde and within a couple of days I had a replacement permit. No further questions were asked.

The missing one never did turn up.

Me too, but it was a particular police station I had to go to (near Schaffauserplatz I think), other police stations wouldn't take me report of a lost residence permit. But yes, got a new one in a couple of days.

Is that why you had to pay?

I went to the main police station by the Rudolf Brun Brücke. But I think they have re-organised since then so it could well be the one at Schaffhauserplatz is now responsible. I vaguely remember reading something about that in some newspaper.

The police report didn't cost me any money.

I think I had to pay something for the replacement permit but I don't think it was very much.

No, because it is Switzerland. It will always cost some something. Be happy when it is free and assume the bill has not arrived yet.

You were right, I thought about asking a stupid question...

Yesterday I received my residence permit already in the new card format. And my car is licensed immediately.

Thank you all for your help.

Found a C permit in the street near my house on Wednesday night.

Fortunately the address was just around the corner from where I found it so I popped it into the person's letter box. Less work than bringing it to the police.

Unfortunately for me, it was stolen from the car, abroad
