I had very bad experience in RAV office in Zürich Zentralstrasse.I went there in hope that they will help me in my job search. They assigned me to a lady,I explained my qualifications to her and also that I am looking for IT jobs. She replied : I will only help you, if you will apply for any lower job(like in migros...etc), your degrees are not valid in switzerland and i will talk to my boss about sending you for german course only if you will apply for lower jobs .
And I was really surprised to hear that and i tried to explain again
and then her reply was : Once I went to USA to meet my boyfriend and there i didn't get the job and I worked in macdonald .....
I was really shocked, was she trying to help me????
Bad experience, but I thing she was being realistic.
It is the same thing in Canada. Many foriegners come and expect to work in their field, only to find out that their degrees are not recognized and they have to work as taxi drivers, cooks or go back and do university again.
okkk well in my openion she was mixing her personal life with the professional one b'coz she also had a bad experience. And the hardwork i did to get my degrees is not to do lower jobs.
Could some one suggest me where i can complaint against her.
I take it that your German is not too good as you have to have lessons so was she actually rude to you or was she, perhaps, just trying to explain from her own experience that she understood your position ?
Did you not check if your qualifications were accepted in Switzerland ?
I think there is more to this than meets the eye. (Meaning there was probably a misunderstanding) Generally RAV are very helpful, and they will allocate resources in order to help those who find it difficult to get jobs. Highly skilled and qualified people will have much less difficulty than someone without the language looking for a less specialised role. Talk to some agencies.
First, be willing to learn German and go to the interviews with job hunters saying any word in German. Second, try hard with the language to be prepared to pass an interview in German even with a horrible pronunciation and plenty of grammar mistakes.
Then do not say no to lower jobs because they'll open the doors of the one you wish the most.
Taking lower jobs doesn't mean that you will be there forever. It'll demonstrate that you are very keen to stay in the country and take a position that you may not deserve but this will tell a lot about you.
Coming into a country with a full lot of qualifications but without a contract and without speaking the language means that you're brave and confident. Taking a lower position to improve your German will mean that you're strong, able to face adversity, to go down for the sake of surviving without help from family, over confident and serious about getting Your job in the country.
It's much better to do something useful than waiting for the dream to make true.
Go for any job, make your dream a reality and do not stop aiming for higher later.
If she was meeting her boyfriend in the USA and working at McDonald's she was probably working illegally. One doesn't usually get a work permit in the US based on the fact they have a bf/gf in country. I wonder what her employer would feel about her having worked illegally in another country?
ya agreed, but then she should not had speak like this. That time I was really shocked and i left the hope for job.but now after getting response from some firms, i am feeling quite good.
Look, she wa just being honest and upfront with you.
It is a fact that in almost all countires most foreign degrees are not recognized and you as a foreigner will have to a) go to a shcool to learn the local language, b) go to a local University to complete their degree or c) work as a cook, tax driver, unskilled worker, etc.,
This is not meant to put you down and many people worked hard for their degrees. It is just fact and reality.
what permit do you have? I now assume you're married to a Swiss passport holder based on the small, occasional fragments of information you keep giving.
I don't know what you can honestly expect by posting this here - other than a few kind comments like "be brave" and so on.
We know nothing of your circumstances, qualifications, experience of background and you present us with a couple of lines of what must surely have been a much longer conversation between you and someone else. We do not even know what language this converstaion was conducted in.
You may have been allowed to split atoms in wherever you come form, but don't expect the keys to the lab just by turning up and asking...
Actually for newcomers like us a bit of cheering up by others is also helpful when we are struggling to find our identitiy in an alien country. It is not very kind to always expect people to be confident and find their way around or not get upset by the ups and downs they face while trying to find a foothold.
A lot of times I log on to this site to just find people who are having similar problems as I do and also for advise. But I have found that a lot of times the older members are a bit cynical of mistakethe new comers who may not be so savvy and are a bit hesistant in spilling their guts out on day one. Sorry if I ruffle feathers by this post, its just what I feel.
But I think many new posters need to think a bit more about what they post and how they post it and what they expect to gain from posting. Essentially here Krati did "spill her guts" - in that she told us about a sound bite of a much longer meeting in her much longer life - but that was all.
We were given precious little about the encounter or really what she wanted as a response other than 'yes, they're bastards down there at the RAV' - which they aren't...
Frankly, I don't know if this was originally posted in the Complaints Corner or moved, but if it's there, I don't know that any compassionate/helpful/whatever response is required; I don't know that she's looking for any useful information whatsoever. I mean, if you have a forum labeled "complaints" you sort of have to expect people to just come in and unload from time to time.
I agree with everyone at the same time i have to say "if this forum is to remain useful to most users "(and believe me i have felt the wrath of the big boys at times) it must remain a factual site". There is a PM button where people can contact each other, so sympathy and virtual cuddles can be exchanged.
It has taken me a while to work out the whole scheme of things and as a sensitive female i have to say if we become a forum of "there ,there we'll make it better" we will have lost the plot.
Hope you don't think I'm harsh, if you do, your too sensitive.
