Would love some advice on what is typical (sheepskin? or fleece?) and why you like what you have. Thanks!
I was wondering what type of footmuffs were used for babies in strollers/prams? Below is a picture from Germany's Kaiser www.kaiser-naturfellprodukte.de but I have also heard of Voksi muffs.
We had the soft bag which was part of our Teutonia pushchair. It was lightly padded with a zip all the way round.
I didn't like the idea of the sheepskin or heavily padded ones because on warmer days you couldn't really cool them down. With ours you could pull out one of the blankets/rugs if the little fella seemed to be getting too warm or you entered a shop then add it again if it got cold or when you left the shop into the cold.
You can find all sorts of foot muffs in any of the baby shops (McBaby, Bebehaus Wehrli, etc.,)
I would imagine there are a selection online, too.
There are some really good ones from the german brand "Odenwälder" out there, we have a Bugaboo but the the original Bugaboo Footmuff is simply not warm enough - we do not have the version with Sheepskin available in Switzerland.
We have a Odenwälder with Sheepskin, but there are also synthetic ones (called Muckisack) which are really warm.
I have a Muckisack where the zip goes to the bottom and then a second one goes around the base to avoid having to take shoes on and off. Definitely recommend them though I put an extra blanket in the base last year when my son wasn't walking yet.
I had the same one like in the picture, but it was artificial fur and it worked great. In really cold days and when our bub was tiny and just layed flat I dressed her in the winter astronaut suit, put her in her winter sack and put a baby hot water bottle in the bottom end, not hot but warm and a wool blanket over the sack. It was only so cold here that season for about two three weeks, so she was out and about dressed lighter than that.
Winters are milder here than back home, it was ok to often have her in her suit in BabyBjorn, under my fur coat (unbuttoned). Her suit was fuzzy and my sheep fur coat too, we looked like two bears, people were chuckling when they saw us walking around...
We had another winter footmuff too bought in Prague for 40franks and that was one with expention (for toddlers), I could zip in on the bottom to make it longer. Something like this
I bought the ones to go with my push chairs (one Bugaboo and one Maclaren for traveling) and they both worked perfectly. Being designed to fit each push chair ensured an easy fit and meant that there were no gaps etc. and my daughter stayed nice and toastie all winter.
With their winter clothes on, you don't need anything too warm, but I started the season using blankets, but these just got kicked off in no time so I'd recommend getting a proper footmuff.
Anyone familiar with the Babynest brand from Germany? Seems as though there are so many kinds of footmuffs out there. On one hand, we don't want our wee one to overheat. But then we also don't want him to get cold.
Argh...decisions..hehe.
