Studying Medicine in Switzerland Help?

Hello,

I'm a 12th grade girl from the UAE and was wondering if I'm able to study undergrad health sciences/medicine in Switzerland? If not, can I study Masters in Medicine then? I speak intermediate/beginner french and fluent in English and Arabic.

I also have a gpa of 3.7 and I go to an American school in the UAE.

I was hoping to study in Switzerland my bachelors AND masters.

Thanks,

Badria

Also, are there any bachelor health science/biology/medicine courses in Switzerland in just English?

Afraid not. Swiss medicine courses are only open to Swiss Citizens and Swiss residents and are not in English. I think the Swiss medicine courses are like in the UK, where you do one course for 5 years to get a degree to masters level, not like the USA where you study an Bachelors and Masters separately.

I'm pretty sure the MBCHB and MBBS in the UK are both bachelors degrees.

So what would I be able to study in Switzerland when it comes to sciences/biology?

If you get your high school diploma recognised as equivalent to the swiss one you can study anything really, except medicine, dentistry and maybe pharmacy. But in your case it doesn't seem you can get a full equivalence, both with UAE or american diplomas:

Bachelors usually have the first 2 years, if not all 3, in the local language, with some rare exceptions. Browse the university websites and you can find all of them listed. Whatever you do also have a backup plan should this not work, you can also do a bachelor elsewhere and come to CH for the master.

Veterinary and also Sports medicine are off the list too iirc. Not sure about the Sports, but definitely Veterinary is only open to Swiss citizens/residents.

Why so desperate for Switzerland? Surely it would be better to go and study in a country where you can study the subject you want in the language you want?

You need C permit to be able to study medicine in Switzerland. However, I can suggest you to start your study in Netherlands. It is a very liberal country and people are in average more open-minded than Swiss. More importantly, they are accustomed to have foreign Drs and also accept many foreign students applications for Medical school.

Mind that there is also a NC in the Netherlands for medicine. And your high school degree needs to be accepted

It's not about open-mindedness

And can you study in NL without speaking/understanding Dutch?

Plenty of "foreign Drs" here btw. Just not ones educated at Swiss unis.

The requirements to study Medicine here are extremely restricted for Swiss too. It's not like anyone can walk in and study it. The studies are also set up very differently than in other countries, most notably UK/US.

Anything other than medicine. Provided your diplomas are recognized. And provided you speak German or French to at least C1, depending on where you end up (beginner level is nowhere near enough). Undergraduate degrees will not be taught in anything other than a national language, not for the most part anyway.

AFAIK certainly not for medicine, unless you go for a PhD. There are several courses in English but I am quite sure that medicine is not one of them

Given you later have to treat people and be able to communicate with patients in their own language, that makes an awful lot of sense

No, you do not need a C permit to study medicine. A B permit works just fine as well. But you do need C-1 level German and you need to pass the Numerus Clausus.
