Is it OK to throw away in the normal trashbags or does it need to be recycled. Obviously this is only for when I'm not in the mood to burn it.
I always put it in a Zurisac, make sure there is nothing with your name on just in case. Burning on the balcony on a Sunday afternoon is the preferred method.
If your still in Basel most people just dump any rubbish in Lichtstrasse, very convenient if you work at Novartis
I dissolve it in acetone, makes an excellent glue.
I read the guidelines from our gemeinde, and apart from dangerous and non-burnable stuff I don't think it's mandatory to recycle anything.
Obviously you save money, and the environment, if you do though.
Both my last 2 Gemeinde/Commune have recycled it for me, free of charge. They chop up the big bits and sell it on as packing material.
Burning it would be illegal, obnoxious fumes, and dissolving in acetone is expensive.
In our Gemeinde it can be taken to a recycling depot or to the shop it was bought from. That is apart from any styrofoam which contained chips, meat or fruit, which should be put in the normal rubbish.
A response on this thread seem to indicate you can give it to E-tram
Nice but then OP lives in Basel and not in Zurich
Small amounts can go in the Bebbi Sagg (I've filled a few 120l bags before now without an issue). If you have a load then you can take it to the recycle park at Lottner (for a fee based on volume).

Not sure if I imagined it, but I think I've seen some shops (e.g. Ikea) take it for free.
I usually take it back to where I bought the item and dump it there. Logical!
Please don't burn it. Back in the UK, where my local has dished out 5 different recycling bins to each household, styrofoam / polystyrene is one of the very few things that they say cannot be recycled.
Yes I took it to the E Tram as well. Big amounts. A bean bag full of this shit
In Winterthur we apparantly have to pay 40 Rappen/kg . (Ain't that typical W'thur).
