subrenting my flat? How does the law go about it here in Switzerland?

Me and my wife are thinking about taking 6 months off, traveling around South America. We thought the best thing will be to sub rent the place for the time we are not here.

Is it legal to do so for 6 months?

Usually it is ok but you generally have to ask permission from your landlord first before doing it; also might be best to check the terms of your contract first.

Subleasing is allowed

In Switzerland, subleasing is allowed by law (Swiss Code of Obligations OR Article 262). When you sublet your apartment, you require the permission of your landlord or your administration. The landlord has to agree to the sublease unless you are violating specific basic rules (e.g. demanding rent which is too high).
