summer camp - USA?? UK??

Hi we are thinking about sending our middle school children to a summer camp in the states for 2 weeks - has anyone got any recommendations?

Thanks

I was a camp counselor in Maine in the US one summer, the girls in my bunk were age 9. I was a horseback riding specialist so I didn't have the free time that others did.

While I know they had fun - its the actions of the leaders that would make your head spin. Oh the stories!

In any case, I hope you find something great that your kids will love. I can definitely vouch for the New England area as the weather is lovely in the summer time.

I'll second that. I grew up in New England and always enjoyed the activities we did and friends I made over the summer months.

If you want a suggestion (though I have absolutely no idea if it still exists), I can recommend Camp Abenaki (Abnaki?) on Lake Champlain in Vermont. Great lakefront property and wooden cabins.

Camp Seagull and Camp Seafare are both VERY reputable summer camps located in NC. They are very centered on sailing, so if that is of interest I would definitely recommend the camp. My cousins attended the camp and their children now go. It is a bit pricey and don't know if there will still be spots for this summer, but it is a GREAT camp! Website is http://www.seagull-seafarer.org/ . Pls. note that summers can get pretty hot, so keep that in mind if the kids are sensitive to heat.

If the kids are middle school, I also had a number of friends who did a trip outwest, also originating from NC, that they all loved. Was a fairly small group of kids (teens) who went with a couple of adults and visited all the national parks, etc. The son of one of my cousins just went and had a blast. His aunt (also my cousin ) met her husband on the trip! The website is
