Summer job ideas???

Hi everyone! I am a University student majoring in French and Anthropology with a minor in German. With these areas of study I would really, really love to study abroad... but as I do not have enough money to afford it this is unlikely. I am a non-traditional student, so finding financial aid in the US for me is difficult at best. Most scholarships are for younger students. I have enough money to get myself to Europe and lodging for 2-3 weeks. In order to facilitate my goal of spending a fair amount of time overseas (practicing French and German- which is why Switzerland is a great choice... besides I love the country I am thinking it would bve nice to get a summer job overseas. If I can make enough money to pay for an apartment I'd be happy. I can bring my own spending money or live on the cheap (I am afterall a college student!). Can anyone offer any suggestions? Ideas? I am open to working up to 40 hours a week and as a non traditional student I bring varied work experience (mostly administrative, but I'm open to getting my hands dirty

Also I am aware of the work permit situation... which is part of the reason I am making plans now so I can be on top of things when it is time.

Thanks!

Heather

Try a farm

You can start whenever you like!

Warning: It is hard work!

The Swiss Farm Work Association can place unskilled French- or German-speakers under 30 on farms around the country – long, hard hours pay you Fr.20 a day, plus board and lodging. Contact Landdienst Zentralstelle, Postfach 728, CH-8025 Zürich (01/261 44 88, www.landdienst.ch ) well ahead of time. Otherwise, WWOOF (Willing Workers on Organic Farms) can organize placements at 45 farms around the country, for which you get the experience but no wages. Contact WWOOF Switzerland, Postfach 59, CH-8124 Maur ( www.welcome.to/wwoof ).

Yeah, this isn't an option for me I am 30... next summer I will not qualify. I did the whole college thing backwards and went out got a job and had a family before figuring out what I wanted to do with my life. Thank you though!

Just lie about your age

Yeah, I thought about that then figured some one would ask for ID and clearly see I lied! Besides, not sure they'd buy my lie when I show up with two kids and a husband I was thinking more along the lines of maybe cleaning hotel rooms or doing menial filing while someone took their mandatory vacation.... something like that. This way I could earn enough to pay for an apartment and spend my evenings and weekends experiencing all there is to offer in Switzerland and practice my language skills.

Perhaps a bi-lingual daycare or summer camp that could use a native English speaker? Does anyone use this and can point me in the right direction? I googled and found a few that I will contact, but perhaps someone can give me a few leads?

I know my proposition is a long shot, but I figure it is still worth trying

And ironically about the farms... my parents own a farm and we do make cheese, so I'd be great at that!
