sunday shopping in zurich, near Oerlikon

hello, are there any shops open in zurich on sunday in Oerlikon (Zurich) ? like near train station ?

and if so, which ones? there was a lot of talk about sunday shopping and complains in the forum, but i actually couldn't find a list of shops that are open, just some general sugesstion to look on airport and train station.

by shops, i mean grocery shops, or even supermarkets if possible

you might have more luck in germany if thats where you live?

Anyway shops at Zurich HB or the airport are open, but not seen any open in Oerlikon

Oerlikon is more or less closed on Sundays and on most Public Holidays.

The best option for Sunday shopping would be Hauptbahnhof (Zurich HB) or Flughafen(Airport). Unless there is some major festival coming up, like Christmas or something, most of the Bigger Departmental Stores/Shopping Centers would be closed on Sundays.

There are shops at the railstations that are open on Sundays as well, if that is what you mean. These "Avec" shops are excluded from the shut-down on weekends. But, they are usually smaller ones (apart from the Airport and Mainstation) with limited variety. Good enough for bread and milk to go with your Sunday brunch...

from oerlikon, i would take a 5 minute train ride to the airport and shop there at the migros.

i live in germany, but i'm moving to zurich soon

i know i'm picky, but are there any shops open on sunday easly reachable by car? it's probably extremly expensive to park near airport or HB.

i got used to no sunday shoping in germany (i guess), but here most shops are open until 22:00 Mon-Sat , so it's easy to jump to a shop even if you forgot something.

In Zurich it's more like 18:30 from what i have seen, max 20:00 so not really nice...

well then use the very handy public transport

basically sunday shopping isn't done here so its something you will have to get used to but you can jump on a train and arrive by train almost to the door of migros, not too difficult really.....

It's not so nice, but you get used to it. But it has improved as there are now places opened all Saturday afternoon (before they closed at 2 or 4), and sometimes until 8pm. Mind you in our town there are lots that do not open Monday mornings. I don't like functioning Monday mornings either so I don't blame them.

Bäckerei Buchman in Max-Bill Platz open on Sundays, from 8:00 - 16:00.

Its located next to Marriott Hotel.

It is not a grocery shop, but from what I've seen, they have milk, cheese, butter, eggs too..

these avec shops seems to be quite nice, with vegetables and so on. so it seems there is no ban on sunday shopping in switzerland for small shops.

any other chains like avec in zurich or any other shops open on sunday other than airport/hauptbahnhof ones ?

and by Zurich i mean canton of zurich, doesn't have to be in the city.

P.S. sorry for prelonging this thread, but i read A LOT of information on this forum about sunday shopping ban, and i was conviced NO shops other than airport/haupbahnhof ones are open, and at least HB has no parking space, and both are usually packed.

and now it seems there are some, just not big. (better than in germany it seems, i only find gas stations open here on sunday with very limited food, forget about vegetables)

There is actually a kiosk open on Sunday in Oerlikon Bahnhof, they do bake fresh bread and you will find the basics including a small variety of cold meats.

If you don't find what you want there, try the gas station close to Hallenstadion.

The Aperto is open I think.

So you want the luxury of Sunday shopping and don't want to pay any extra for it?

Public transport is probably the cheaper and most practical option for both HB and airport.

Get used to it. Public transport actually works.

Our local farm has its 'vegetable stall' open on Sundays. (Serve yourself, put money in box, if you have no money with you, put in a note and pay some other time)

The farmer's wife told me that when they had previously had it closed on Sundays, folk came to the farm house and rang their bell...

either i'm blind, or there is no Aperto store in or near Zurich? at least according to this page http://www.aperto.ch/

so Avec is the only option it seems (of course, excluding airport/hb)

Both very useful on a Sunday. The bread from the kiosk is great, and the gas station has a fair range of products.

We have a Landi which is a garage with local home produce good veg, bread and lots more I did a search for you and I think the nearest to you is Regensdorf, garage is an Agrola, check out these links www.landi.ch or www.agrola.ch

Also as someone else mentioned our local farmer also has all his produce available inc. eggs. onions, potatoes etc.. again you just leave the money in the box.

Not sure if they still do but the Big Turkish supermarket in Tramstasse was open on Sunday a couple of months ago but since they have had a refit and not sure if they do still.

There is also a small turkish shop just opposite the berninaplatz tram stop and that also was open one sunday.

The Coop as in the big one next to SternennOerlikon now opens till 9pm on Thurs and Aldi in Neu Oerlikon is open till 8 Mon till Fri (I think)

Otherwise your best option would be as above HB or the Airport.

You can always get Tesco to deliver ... Oh of course not this CH.

I think there are also a couple of places along Langstrasse that might be open on Sundays.
