Im about to buy a samsung galaxy s2, the contract with sunrise is for 2 years. I think i will leave in one year more or less, and i heard that if you leave switzerland you dont have to pay the rest of the contract. Does somebody know if its right or not?? cuz if i have to leave before the contract finish, and i have to pay it, will be 125 Chf x 12months =1500!!!!
We talked to Orange when we first arrived, and they told us to bring our de-registration paperwork (proof we're leaving) and they would cancel the contract, no additional costs.
You need to read the contract thoroughly before you sign it. If you are buying a subsidized phone/ipad thing generally you are charged big fines for not finishing out the contract. Contracts without phones are generally easier to cancel.
quite often they will let you of the contract on a months notice, but you will have to pay for the phone or at least a proportion of the cost dependent on how long you've had the contract/phone.
consider buying the S2 from interdiscount with coop mobile friends surf, or directly from coop mobile - if you take a 12 month contract @29.95pcm you pay only for the sim card (40 sfr) - the phone is free! you can also pay for the sim and your monthy bills using coop supercard points it's a nice feeling walking out of the shop with one of the top available phones, knowing you have 12 months use for 400 sfr and no further liability (depending on the networks you call and data usage) - it includes 200 or 300 MB pcm data (depending which sales details or contract you read...)
They don't just give you a phone for 1CHF and expect that you can turn around and cancel the contract. You will need to read the contract. I'll bet that if you don't finish out the contract they will expect you to pay for the phone.
often they charge a fee for early termination of a contract. Sunrise and Orange both practise it - if it applies to people departing from Switzerland who are de-registered I cannot say. Swisscom now has changed this practise and allows termination of contracts within 60 days.
Bizarre if its that simple - that you can get the phone for 0 CHF instead of 599 CHF, by promising to pay 24months x 100chf contract, and then leave the country and contract unpaid halfway through.
Just for your information Media Markt in Basel , they have got an offer with Orange for the samsung galaxy S Plus right now. It costs Fr. 35.00 per month with a 12 month contract. Incl. the value of the SIM Card even.
You have to prove that you are leaving Switzerland two months before you leave. Just send them the de-register statement with the dismissal notice.
I did the same when I left Switzerland. Was absolutely no problem. This is an exceptional case. But you can call them and ask!
Of course you have to read the contract before, but you never know what happens. Maybe you'd like to stay for years and then you've got a job in you home country.
Of course, you know that if you sign a contract for two years, knowing that you'll be unable to fulfill it as you'll be leaving the country in one year, that you'll have committed the criminal act of fraud?
You are able to fulfull the contract, it's not necessary to live here to pay the remaining months. It's people don't want to pay, I expect to keep my phone no for a long time after leaving!
