Anyone know where you can you obtain very large pieces of mesh? I'd like to cover the opening of large sliding doors for a winter garden. approx 2.8m x 3m required. All the rolls available online are only 1.5m wide max.
I guess, mesh that fine will constantly clog with dust, at least if I look at my computer, which I have to blow through all the time. But if you fancy a new compressor, it might just be the right excuse to convince the wife that you really need one.
Just when I decided to go for the normal mosquito-net, last night my lamp was visited by those tiny tiny what-evers (don't even know if they bite - do they?) which are highly annoying and will easily go through the 1mm holes of the net.
Back to square 1
Does anyone know whether those tiny ones bite? If they don't I might decide to put up with them.
If you mean fungus gnats/Trauermücken/Sciaridae, then no, they don't bite. But they need moist soil to lay eggs, and if you have plants at home, they may become a problem.
Thanks to those who suggested Aldi/Lidl. We’ve got some lovely yellow jacket nests starting right up next to the stores on several of our windows, not to mention the mosquitoes and flies that will be soon on their way. I found some window netting at Lidl that essentially tapes on—hopefully that will hold in the wind I guess, but they were so cheap I don’t mind finding out.
In the US and hiking community, the net that keeps the tiny bastards out is called "no-see-um", for obvious reasons. Hiking in the Arctic would be horrible without it. Google it for more info.
But I can see them - in fact THAT's what annoys me, they're so nervous.
They look a bit (they're so tiny, let's face it, we don't really know what they look like LOL) like those little bastards who like fruit. But they are not interested in my bananas, they are only interested in light. So they zoom around the lamp all nervously. They also like to sit on my monitor - which is where they finally die (My monitor is the best cleaned item in the house in summer).
I think I will give up trying to find the perfect solution and just go for mosquito-net before summer is over. Obi has a 2.4m one, at least the size-problem is solved now.
Hey guys I just wanted to report that I bought an insect net from Amazon for only 20chf and it is brilliant. It was super easy to fix using the velcro tape and the net fastens with magnets that are self-closing with a very smooth and slick action.
I bought the 90x210 size and the only slight thing I would change is to have a 90x220 option, as because I mounted mine on the outside of my door it's a little short (around 10cm). However, 95% of my balcony door entrance is protected from random flying monsters and that's the main thing. For the money, I don't see how this can be beat!
