Suspended car insurance without notice

Hi,

Today by chance i logged into my Axa profile and, to my surprise, I saw that my car insurance has been suspended since March without any notice. I never received an e-mail or a call about the suspension. The car insurance was paid for the full year of 2022 and now i see that the remaining amount has been credited to my Axa account (not refunded to my bank account). The problem is, as I wasn't aware of that, I've been driving normally in and out of Switzerland (to Germany mainly) without a valid car insurance basically. Thankfully, no accidents and no speed offences. Now, my question is, aren't the cars without valid car insurance automatically blacklisted/checked by the cameras at the border or I would have been caught only in case of an accident/traffic offence? Why didn't the Road Traffic Office request my license plates back or send me a letter after the suspension of my car insurance? How should I approach this case? Thanks in advance.

Would you mind sharing what was the reason for the suspension of your insurance?

Have you, of all things, contacted Axa about this?

AXA are a nightmare and bullies, yes I have had a bad experience with them so I moved to Zurich insurance and things got easier and way way less complicated - AXA are only out for their own gains and as soon as you have any kind of issue all you get are standard answers

I thought it was impossible to drive on Swiss plates without insurance. Urban myth has it the police come and take them if you aren’t insured.

Certainly if the insurance is cancelled, the Strassenverkehrsamt is informed immediately, so I am surprised that they have not been on the OP's case.

I am also surprised by this. When Zürich cancelled (by an error) our liability insurance, I received a registered letter from the Strassenverkehrsamt that I need to hand in my plates.

Are you sure it was the mandatory insurance that was cancelled?

That's no myth. If you don't return them the police will come to collect them.

Folks, note that OP hasn't posted for two weeks now, and that rainer's question (basically "what does Axa say?") is still unanswered.

Perhaps he's still in the waiting loop of their call-center?
