Swimming in the Aare

Hi everyone, any help appreciated.

We would like to go to Bern this weekend to swim in teh Aare. We have a minor handicap of a few small children with us (8-11 years old) so although they can swim, I think its too ambitious for them to swim in the Aare and they will have to entertain themselves.

So I am looking at the idea of they play “somewhere” while two adults swim in the Aare at a time then return.

So far the best seems perhaps to be Marzili ( https://www.bern.com/en/aare-river/f…avorite-routes ) where we could have the children playing in the public swimming pool while we walk up a bit, jump in and swim down then repeat swapping adults over.

Is this the best way to run it ? or is there somewhere we might be able to go which is more of a loop so we could start where we finished. The other article is the Bremgarten loop (same link) which implies a proper loop but its a bit unclear for me if this is really a loop of the Aare or just going through the tunnel a few times. if anyone has done this would be great to know.

Finally, one last request - I dont have a float bag as such. I have a waterproof bag for my standup paddle, but the float bags they refer to, are these different, more air contained affairs or any old waterproof will do ? and if I am going on a loop, I am thinking its optional anyway apart from the nice feeling of floating ?

note: we are all good swimmers (the adults).

Any tips hugely appreciated.
