Swiss: April travel with family

HI Guys

We have family visiting us for almost all of April and we wanted to take them around Switzerland. We have 2 young kids 1 y and 7y old

We are already planning to take them around Interlaken, Lauterbrunnen, Grindelwald etc. They have already done Lucenere and surrounding mountains

Where else would be nice to take them around. I am aware the weather could be unpredictable. We all like the outdoors so stroller freindly hikes and walks and siteseeing is what we are looking for

Any pointers to regions we could go to and what we could so would be very helpful

Many thanks

Does the family that is visiting you also have children? If so, maybe you could bring all the kids to Connyland (which is a small amusement park that is good for kids of the ages that you had listed), or even to Europa Park, in Germany.

Thermal baths are also really nice in April. Some are more kid-friendly than others.

When you get some nice weather, maybe go to Rapperswil and rent some paddle boats and go out on Lake Zurich.

Go to the Juckerhof / Juckerfarm in Seegraben on Pfaffirkersee. It's great for kids, with a little petting zoo area, etc. and a wonderful restaurant with a seasonal buffet. It is very family (and stroller) friendly. I think there might also be another Juckerfarm somewhere, but I'm not sure where it is.

Have a lake-side picnic along the shore of Lake Greifensee (or another lake somewhere). Seebad Furren is really nice for picnics on Lake Greifensee because it has bathrooms there and a grill, etc.

Find a spot in the forest with a fire pit and have a picnic there. Kids often enjoy roasting marshmallows, too.

Maybe go to the Zurich zoo?

Anyhoo, these are just some random thoughts and ideas. Have fun! April is usually such a wonderful month to be here.

Augusta Raurica

Augusta Raurica is a Roman archaeological site and an open-air museum in Switzerland located on the south bank of the Rhine river about 20 km east of Basel near the villages of Augst and Kaiseraugst. It is the site of the oldest known Roman colony on the Rhine.

This is a fun day out in the spring sunshine

While you are in BE, Ballenberg (an outstanding open air museum) is a great day out for families - lots of interest for children and adults alike… Paths are easy with a stroller, the animals are a big hit with children, restaurants to stop and take a break if the little ones get tired. Try to time your visit for some of the crafts/historic demonstrations.

Weekends will be very crowded, so go mid week if possible.

Opens 6 April.

If you get to the Bodensee area, just on the DE side is Insel Mainau, a gorgeous garden island. Spring bulbs should be in their glory in April. Easy stroller paths, a butterfly house, several restaurants. A nice half day.

If you are heading out in the direction of Appenzell and the weather is good I can heartily recommend the Barfussweg (bare foot path). Loads of different textures for little feet, including different grades of gravel and stones, mud, grass, water, tickly bits, messy bits, squidgy bits. And there’s a tap at the end to wash off all the muck.

We had a great time and the kids don’t notice that they’re on a hike (“when are we there…” and “I’m tired…”) because there’s so much to experience.

Also Zoo in Rapperswil is worth visiting. Smaller and more interesting than Zurich Zoo. The one in Zurich is massive so lots of walking...

How far do you want to go? There’s the Transport Museum at Luzern if you haven’t done that yet.

The underground mills at Le Locle, though they may not be the best for carrying kids up and down.

Were you there in April? I would have thougt that the ground is too cold well into May.

Which is why I said it's an option in good weather. We've been there early May over the bank holiday in the past and it was fine. Maybe we're just hardy.

Suggestion still stands for later in the summer in case someone stumbles over the thread in the future.

Agreed... I did it in April 2015 and it was absolutely fine.
