Swiss B-Permit, do I need visa to visit USA

Hello folks,

I’m bikram from Bhutan.I currently study in Swiss and has B-permit visa so my question is that is it allowed to travel to USA with Swiss B-Permit visa for few months to USA ?

Do I require other visa to travel or can I travel with Swiss B-permit and my country’s passport ?

Thank you and your help will be appreciated.

Being a student in Switzerland doesn't entitle you to enter the USA without a visa. It's your nationality that counts, not your place of residence.

Your country is not listed on the visa waiver program, so you will need to apply for a visa. Be sure to apply for the right one.

The U.S. Embassy website for Bern is here:

If you wish to apply for a visa to travel to the USA, then be sure to check the dates of validity of your Swiss B-Permit, and stay well within them.

If you wish to return to Switzerland after visiting the USA, you will need to know with certainty that your B-Permit will still be valid not just at the start of your journey, but also at the end of your journey when you leave the USA. It is best to have at least a week or two to spare, just in case you are unexpectedly delayed on your way back to Switzerland from the USA, and get back to Switzerland later than you had first planned.

If your Swiss B-Permit has expired by the time you leave the USA, you will have to return from the USA to Bhutan, not to Switzerland.

Alternatively, to re-enter Switzerland, you will have to obtain another visa to enter Switzerland, e.g. a Tourist Visa. But that may take some time to process.

Noted with thanks.

Your SWISS "B" permit gives you no rights to visit the USA

You will need to either get a visa from the US EMBASSY or possibly, depending on your nationality, you may not need a VISA but whatever the case is you need to complete the ESTA regisitation before entering the US.

If you complete this form and pay $14.--- it will immediatly tell you if you need a visa or not, depending on the information you supply.

Within 72 hours. Since December 11th 2018 instant approval are thing of the past. https://www.cbp.gov/newsroom/nationa...-72-hours-esta

A person only completes ESTA if they are a citizen of a country that is part of the visa waiver program. Unfortunately for OP, Bhutan is not on that list.

He'll need to request a traditional visa, and since it could take some time to gather paperwork and get an appointment I recommend he start the process now.
