Swiss email providers - paid or unpaid

I would like to stop using google and yahoo accounts given the behaviour of those companies in terms of using and sharing/handing over personal data.

Europe has better privacy standards and I would like a fully Swiss provider, with data stored in Switzerland. If there's a great option elsewhere in Western Europe that is OK too. I do not mind paying for a good service.

I would also like to avoid email addresses/accounts that expire with the use of an internet service. Hispeed looks like something that disappears when you are no longer a UPC customer, for instance.

While I can see some posts about free emails, free is not my concern, the integrity of the email provider is.

Your thoughts appreciated.

If it's just plain old email that you want you could try:-

http://www.gmx.ch/

I think it's a German service, but then again you can never be 100% sure where your data is being stored on the net.

Try bluewin.ch or bluemail.ch (if that still exists). I don't know where they store the data, but I am sure you can find that out. Also try web.de or gmx.de they are obviously both German but maybe store the data also in Germany.

I use Fluent in the UK http://www.fluent.ltd.uk/email/hosting/

Nice people.

At the same time, don't fool yourself into thinking your data is secure after you make the switch. The U.S. sweeps up plenty of data from those without google or yahoo accounts. If anyone you know has one of those accounts and communicates with you, or if you ever are on a website affiliated with either company, etc. Not saying it's right, just observing that's how it appears to work.

I use GMX, and I as far as I can remember when I set it up years ago, you could (then) choose your domain from .de, .ch, or .com

As I've only ever used this one, I am unfamiliar with anything else out there - including Outlook and Gmail, so could be the same for all, but for GMX you can access mail from any computer in any location, with login and password, as mail is also held on a central server.

You could try Postmail , but you need to have a valid Swiss address as the account activation details are sent to you via snail mail.

Thanks all. Especially this one - ironic, the US seems to be operating like a Hoover! I'll take a look at them.

Postmail mail. Good and no spam

I'm can't speak with any authority but this company came up on my radar recently while researching the same question.

http://www.artmotion.eu/swiss-mail-overview/

But perhaps none of that matters since the Swiss will monitor you too. I know it is an old article but...

Perhaps we just have to go back to the lick and seal snail mail method if you what your privacy to be respected.

Did a Google on GMX and the result was "The company's US data center is located in Lenexa, Kansas ."

About " I would like a fully Swiss provider, with data stored in Switzerland ."

As somebody already posted it is the law in Switzerland (since 2002) that "all providers keep all email details for 6 months in case the authorities want to take a look".

Oh yea... The UK (GCHQ) is as safe as the NSA...

Yes, but it's British. At least they're polite about it.

Since this Postmail is a former Goverment organisation i bet they would be giving, just like the current Goverment gives willingly your Bankaccount Data illegaly to the US, also anything the US would ask for...

hahaha.. yea u right.. as polite as not giving Julian Assage a free passage as Asylum taker in the Equadorian embassy and even treaten to storm it....

Or as Cameron recently warned the Press to be nice or face consequences...

But thats another matter...

thats interesting... I didnt knew that and would like to know where to find that Law for confirmation... Coz i would be interested to make a email Provider myself but if thats the case i rather go somewhere else

Bingo.... That means under supervision of the NSA already

Yea its a bit old but on the end of the info i found this..... So maybe not that bad if u only need to store the logs of email traffic not the content...

Email surveillance

Swiss legislation was changed in January 2002 to permit email surveillance

ISPs had until April 1, 2003 to comply with technical changes required by law.

Providers will have to keep electronic logs of email traffic for six months.

Investigators will only be able to access data for specific criminal cases.

ISPs will not log email content, but only basic data.
