By Xavier Koller. Film about a turkish family trying to enter Switzerland by the "green" border, based on a true story.
Won the Oscar for the best foreign language film in 1991. Rather oppressive.
I also liked "Bergauf Bergab"
It has everything, german, firm tits, swiss german, french, Zürich, Geneva, saggy tits, baby.
Awesome flick
I saw the Die Schweizermacher when it came out. It was great.
Has anybody seen "Ernstfall in Havanna" (2002)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0311081/
Was that any good?
I like the white polyester pants and the hairdos from the preview you attached!
I wonder if it is available on VHS or DVD?
Thumbs up/down?
I find the humour too slapstick, or if serious they are so depressing. I don't like the acting.
I liked Reise der Hoffnung and Das Boot ist voll, but depressing? There was also one about a Greek woman who works in a canteen, well acted but again- depressing.
Ilike Iranian films of course and Iranain film makers. Washington, DC - Hailed by Roger Ebert as “the new great American director” for his recently released movie. Goodbye Solo, Now I'll duck before DB throws a shoe.
Iranian movies are fabulous I agree. With no budget, heavy censorship, and a cast composed of often non professionals, they make very moving films. I never missed the Tehran film festival when I lived there.
Another Swiss film showing now:
Pepperminta , by Pipilotti Rist.
Very colourful, apparently. Has anyone seen it yet? It strikes me as a little like Balamory for adults.
The story is about 3 farmers who are up on the alm during the summer and they create a life-size female doll for company. They talk to her, feed her, have sex with her, get jealous of each other about her. The doll comes to life and, when the time comes to go back down to the village after the summer's over, the consequences are disastrous. Illustrates the loneliness and primitiveness of some regions of Switzerland very well (as a refreshing contrast to the "Heidi" culture)
Messidor (a Swiss Thelma and Louise) is pretty good too. I also bought it on Amazon as a cheap used VHS tape. It is pretty dark in a Jacques Chessex sort of way. Emil Steinberger has a small part.
It is a bit like those 70s American disaster movies where there are a myriad of side stories beside the main drama.
It gave good insight in to one side of the Swiss humour!

This one I saw at the Locarno film festival, not the best movie I have seen, but should be in the cinemas now or soon:

Enjoy.
It is pretty funny, in a cute-funny kind of way. It is called "Bread and Chocolate", ("Pane e cioccolata") and it is, I think, from the same era as "Schweizermacher".
Cheers

I had a really good laugh !!
