Maybe I understand it differently than you do, and that's also part of his intent. (IMO, lol)
The quote about the Mona Lisa stands on it's own, with no other context. (apart from Matter's way of thinking, writing, seeing the world.)
Fascinating.....seems like he was ahead of his time.....just like his death. That anniversary is in couple days time.
I love the way he sometimes starts with a simple theme, veers out into neurotic preoccupation, then invokes closure and things are back to normal, leaving a smile on your face.
I referred to his stuff a lot when I was starting to explain Lit Crit, style, metaphor etc to my children.
Thank you everyone for the many examples and links! I'll be working through them, especially the Mani Matter chansons. Such masterful use of text and melody. That was exactly what I had been looking for.
Unfortunately so many of these dialect lied are just miserably performed and produced. Ear bleedingly bad. I wish they were better - especially the songs of René Fischer. I've heard his name bounced around but hadn't heard any recording until now. Ojé.
The Typisch Helène series is also a fantastic resource. Does anyone know of anything like that in Basler dialect?
