Hello All,
I just arrived in Switzerland and have found a job in the service industry. I have a Swiss passport but this is my first time here. In any case, my employer says I need to have swiss health insurance before I can start working - I thought I had 3 months to decide which one to get.
If anyone knows, or can offer advice, please do. I'm still covered with non-swiss insurance until the end of September, and would rather not pay for it twice.
Thanks,
Tim
Good morning,
The rule is you have three months to find an insurance, but you must be insured from the beginning of your stay on. Meaning that usually insurances will backdate to the beginning of the month that you have arrived in Switzerland - because the insurance you eventually choose will have to offer coverage during this time. Just FYI, backdating is not required (anymore?). I signed up with Group Mutuel insurance and they offered to start the contract from the third month of my being here. I called the Zurich Health Department to check if this is acceptable and they said that this is perfectly legal as long as the insurance company agrees to do this.
