Perhaps this has been asked before, so please excuse the repeated question.
I was curious as to if all mandatory health insurance companies all work on the reimbursement model? (i.e. pay first, then submit for reimbursement) If there is an insurance company that has more of a German style (i.e. pay with the insurance card), I would love to know!
You do not pay with your insurance card in Germany 😀 you just have the bill sent directly to your insurer and yes, lots of health insurances here have that as well. It also depends on your GP
Not really. We’re with CSS and initially when we joined back in 1998 they did it so we paid the invoice ourselves and then sent the invoice/payment details to them for reimbursement. A few years later they switched over to everyone sending them the invoices direct and we then just get CSS invoices for whatever bits we need to pay from our franchise/part quote.
There are some insurers where you always have to pay yourself and claim it back (assura being one of them, can’t remember the others) but most of them are not like that.
Hospitalisation is always billed directly to the insurer and some doctors do it too but not all of them.
