Offering a Rioja "Bodegas Olarra Cerro Añon, Rioja DOCa Crianza, Spain" for "Per bottle only CHF 8.90 instead of CHF 15.90"
I thought that looks good, I will just do a quick Google on price -found German companies selling this wine for around 6 euro (even one for 3 euro but that offer is closed now).
So taking account of delivery and duty the Swiss offer price is about average, not such a great bargain - price would be great if you could collect the wine personally from a German shop who would give you the MWST (VAT) back.
Lufthansa themselves are currently offering 2,400 miles for only 60 euro.
I never understand how these miles offers work
So if I buy 12 bottles for CHF 130 I receive 1,300 miles which is like a discount of CHF20+ based on Coop prices?
If I want to fly to London return (30,000) that means I buy miles from Coop for circa CHF 500 or spend CHF 3,000 on wine or simply fly Easyjet for circa CHF 150?
Or for only 329,000 miles you can get a genuine Swiss flight attendant trolley; you could push it around your house pretending to be a trolley dolly serving spirit miniatures.
The best deals are on business class tickets. If you have clocked enough points - and top up with some cheaply purchased ones then it makes a nice addition to a trip.
I travelled a lot last year on business, gave up a lot of personal time for the company - getting "something" back is a bonus. And using that "something" in the most optimal way is nice.
On the wine front - M&M sometimes do a deal with COOP wine - that one is worth getting
Actually with M&M you can also pay the taxes with your points, rather than cash such as is the case with BA's Avios. So although it increases the cost in miles it does mean that the flight can be genuinely free if you have accumulated a lot of them through business travel.
This is true, however it basically means that you need to double the listed miles to get what you should get with the listed miles.
For example, I used 110,000 United Airlines miles to get a *free* trip to New Zealand with Thai Airways. It did cost $116 in airport fees for Bangkok, but that was it.
I can't imagine how much Lufthansa would charge in fuel surcharges and fees.
But for longer distance and higher class travel they become much better value. First class is by far the best value, Business is still great.
The tickets you get are very flexible: you can pretty much choose any valid route between the continents including open-jaw and connections to provicial airports and they are completely changable for one year; there is not even a no-fly penalty.
Two examples of this: We brought family members flights from their local airport in Russia, via Frankfurt to London City in eco (out) / business (return) for something like 35k miles, instead of 3000EUR+ for the cheapest eco return. We got stuck once in the UK having got miles flights (Business) for SIN-FRA-LHR return (our son was sick). We called up the hotline and told them and they suggested we simply didn't turn up for the flight and call back when we wanted to fly, they even waived the 50EUR charge for rebooking.
It would be great if the taxes and surcharges didnt scale with the reward ticket. (if it was a fixed fee whether you got the economy or business class)
