Swiss military bicycle

Hello,

Interested in buying a vintage Swiss Army bicycle in decent working condition. Anybody know where these can be found?

http://www.militaervelo.ch/

Out for curiosity...why do you want such a bike?

Scary looking saddles but I bet they are comfy once worn in.

These weigh in at about an equivalent of a small compact car. Pure steel I tell ya.

Ah, me - nostalgia floods back!!!

Those Swiss bikes are clearly close cousins of the Navy's ones, affectionately known as "Pusser's Red Devils" )

...weighed a ton, @rse-paralysing saddle, no gears, rod-operated brakes

Good luck in your search!

Check the FAM Forum, submit a wanted post.

Got my dad's in the barn. About 1932 I imagine and in need of a bit of TLC- but I just couldn't sell it. He served right through the war, and did most of the Swiss passes with full kit- and rode it until he was about 85. How they rode those bikes up and down those mountains, I'll never know.

Mind you, I learnt to ride on his bike, about 8 years old, sideways through the frame (if that makes sense) - how I did that, I'll never know either!

Does it have a cork screw?

Just like the original Original Swiss Army knives (not the stuff for tourists), it does not have a cork screw. But it's sturdy enough to carry a box with at least 1230 cork screws, if that helps.

They look awesome, wouldnt mind one myself

I checked - yes still got my dad's knife, again circa 1930 - no corkscrew!

We had some Canadian friends over some years back and he bought a huge Swiss army knife with every gadget imaginable. He was so pleased with his purchase - then my OH got his knife out and Rob realised OH had a corkscrew on his and he had not! He sulked for days afterwards!

@Lost, I think those bikes have a lot of character. Not meant to be a daily rider of course. I enjoy collecting old WWII things. I was on an old german one of these once and the brakes were amazingly simple. Wouldn't wanna go down a steep hill on one of those puppies!

Thanks a bunch for the link. 800CHF might be a bit too high of a price for my hide though...

If you're still looking, I coincidentally chanced upon this today, on Ricardo:

I see from another thread you have running that you're soon leaving the country, but this offer finishes on the 11th.

The "sofort kaufen" price is CHF1500, and you've already stated that CHF800 was too much, but hey, this is Ricardo and you can make an offer, or you can contact the seller directly, to discuss.

[if you sell your wash/dryer combo then you'll have a few chuffs].

There is an army surplus store in Uraniastrasse opposite Jemoli, there were a couple in the window today, I don't know if they were for sale or not but worth a look.

Has anyone ridden a Swiss army motorcycle? I've seen a few around, pretty cool looking, but a Swiss friend told me the clutch and brake are reversed, gear shift on the other side, some other anomalies. Would hate to go for the clutch and slam on the brake!

I bought such a bicycle on www.swissmadebikes.com . It's really a cool thing

Ivar, it sounds like a first post from someone who owns the domain and "business"

the M93 is available this week-end at geneva Palexpo:
