Swiss Music Life

Hey

I'm a musician, thinking about moving to Switzerland, to live with my boyfriend.

We will be living in Lausanne.

I would love to recieve some details about musical life in Switzerland, and Lausanne in paticular.

Open mic nights, concerts, information about anything of that sort would be appreciated.

Thank you so much!

You may have been wondering about a lack of replies to your post ?! Easy to explain. There is no "musical life in Switzerland" as there is not a common culture in this country, as the three main parts of CH interact with the neighbouring areas of the same language, as a good part of "musical life" in CH is basically US/British, and as everything depends on what kind of music you are looking for. I just last Friday was in a restaurant where a Jazz Concert was given. You in Zürich can go to places like the "Wolf" with a mix of traditional Swiss-German and Bavarian music. Lausanne is a fairly modern city with some variety.

So that you have to specify your interests, and you then will get serious to-the-point replies

I moved to ZürcherOberland last June. My wife gained employment here and I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to move here. I've found there is more music happening than I can possibly attend, both time wise and financially. I happen to like just about every style, yes even the local amateur groups. I'm a percussionist, used to hanging in classical, jazz and pop circles. There are a number of sites that post concerts, jam sessions, etc. Like anywhere else, it's all about networking, which for me is a challenge as I am slow to learn German. If you can master the language, it will be better. I have found many musicians in the larger cities speak English. I've had a couple of gigs so far and the pay is pretty decent. Good luck!
