Swiss music

I don't think there is one Swiss music, but when I live or visit somewhere new, I like to explore and discover the country through:

- its markets and gastronomy

-its gardens

-its music

Unless there is already a thread, I think it would be a good idea to have a thread to exchange good tips/names of artists... (maybe under "concerts" heading?). Obviously, we would have to keep it Swiss, as I'm sure there is already a lot to discover in this small country alone.

My contribution today will be a band I discovered a couple of months ago: Sonalp. I like the mixture of traditional and modern.

Here's the Verband Schweizer Volkmusik's calendar with a list of folkmusic events:

Thanks. I expect there will be a lot of Volksmusik, but I hope all genres will be catered for. I have also discovered a great CD by WDR called "The Alps music from the old world", that has traditional but also classical Swiss music, cuch as Familie Engel, Husmusig Jeremias Vo Baern... A fantastic choice!

I saw Sonalp at a wedding, they are great!

In another style I quite like Aliose, from Geneva:

THANK YOU! This is great too and the video will mean a lot to anyone who was near the lake in February! What I hope to achieve through this thread is to get a real kaleidoscope of Swiss music, reflecting the cultural mix and patchwork of cultures of this country. So EF members, keep bringing your recommandations!

This could be interesting for you, but it's not only swiss music:

At the moment, the patchwork is a little patchy!

I personally don't quite get it, but my wife is rather keen on this right now:

Typical for Switzerland is also the Volksmusik Style called "Schottisch":

Peter Zinsli (An Barlis Hochzyt)

another Swiss, Stahlberger, nice lyrics:

How about some contemporary musicians/ bands:

Patent Ochsner

Züri West

Polo Hofer

Stefan Eicher

Mani Matter

Plüsch

Baschi

Bligg

Tinkabell

Just to name a few.

Have fun gooooogling!

Pretty popular worldwide right now; Swiss death folk metal. They are on tour.

Most of them are more like my style

Here are different versions of a famous Swiss song:

Original Ewigi Liebi by Mash (Eternal love)

Very successful cover by a yodeling group:

(with subtitles)

My favorite cover

For the romansh song scene, there are quite a few ones to discover:

That gives names:

A local hit in Engadin:

More traditional old fashion kind of new aged version:

More jazzy:

A bilingual one (French from Michael von der Heide and Romansh sursilvan from Mario Pacchioli)

and more or less very year, there is the standards of Rumantsch CD:

I rather share your view! But at least it's original in the sense you would not get this on TOTP!

I wonder which is the longest: the horn or the singer's legs?

Thank you! I rather like that. Does she actually sing in Swiss-German? (sorry I live in Romandie, so can't quite tell)

Did you know that the second clip is actually an old Breton folk song, obviously revisited big way, but I like it!

The first one is a recreation of gaulois, Gaulish. http://www.songlyrics.com/eluveitie/omnos-lyrics/

I listen to the second one an tell you in a minute: EDIT Second one is actually in English - see http://www.greatsong.net/PAROLES-ELU...103349608.html

Blimey, the language takes all the romance away from the song! You need an umbrella if you're standing near the singer!

I do like the yodelling version!
