Swiss Post - Computer Says No...

Those who get indignant about first world problems, look away now.

As we are going on holiday, we wanted to have our post held back.

So went to the Post's website where you can do all this. Once we entered our address, the computer said this is a business premises (odd as we don't own a business) and we have to set up a "SwissID" account and can't do it as "guest". So started looking in that, and it wanted all kinds of personal info - well forget that.

So MrsNickatbasel goes to the post-office to get the post stopped and there they mentioned again about it being a business address. So she asked which business is registered there, but the counter staff could not say for "privacy" reasons.

A quick Google showed a couple of neighbours run small businesses - plus in the "Gewerberaum" part of the building, there is a Shiatsu studio - so guess that is why it trips a wire.

We were able to do it in the end at the post-office, but it cost 20 chuffs as opposed to 8 chuffs for doing online and giving away all kinds of personal info, only necessary because the computer says "No".

Cheers,

Nick

The swissID thing is driving me mad at the moment. I siply don't want to register my personal data with another 3rd party service for absolutly NO added value.

Also i feel like Swiss Post is undermineing the safty of its current system. Was our data not safe before??

I remember living in an apartment which used to be a business before I moved in. When I tried to register myself I also had a notification that its a business but then I was asked if its still the case, i selected ‚no‘ and they sent me a letter to verify my address. All was done online, no issues. In my case the apartment was numbered, I wonder if gets more complicated if apartments in the same premises are not numbered..

Doesn’t matter if there’s any business or not, you still need the Swiss ID thing to be able to do it online now. Found that out a while back so a few times we trekked down to Fribourg for the main post office to do it, but with the increased cost (why?) and trying with our limited French to get across what we wanted to do we finally set up the Swiss ID thing so we could do it online again.
