Swiss Post gutted?

THE POST: According to Blick, the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) is calling for a radical reduction in the universal postal service. According to internal documents obtained by the newspaper on the basis of the Transparency Act, SECO considers the planned revision of the Postal Act to be “fundamentally flawed” and calls for the universal service to be reduced to an absolute minimum immediately. The delivery of parcels and newspapers should therefore be removed from the service mandate. SECO also proposes to privatise PostFinance and to open the payment service to competition. However, these recommendations have not yet found any echo in the Federal Council.

May happen eventually though.

Parcels are what keep the post going so I can’t see them stopping that any time soon.

In fact they should be making deals with other delivery companies to deliver “the last mile”. They are very unique in visiting every Swiss residence 5 or 6 days a week.

It’s the only parcel delivery servicec that works well. If I’m at home i sign and get the package, if I’m not at home they leave a note and i pass by the post.

Compare that to planzer that you have to call them to re-schedule a delivery… hell no.

That’s quite a significant development. If SECO’s recommendations were implemented, it would really change how postal and financial services operate in Switzerland. Removing parcel and newspaper delivery from the universal service could have major effects on rural areas and smaller businesses that rely on consistent delivery networks. Privatizing PostFinance and opening payment services to more competition might encourage innovation, but it could also raise concerns about accessibility and fairness. It’ll be interesting to see whether the Federal Council takes these suggestions seriously or maintains a more balanced approach to protecting public service obligations.

The think tank Avenir Suisse proposes a radical reform of the postal service: deliveries should only be made twice a week – and no longer necessarily by noon.

Unfortunately that’s what happens when McKinsey consultants start making the shots.

Swiss Post is one of the few things I have few complains about, so I guess it is logical for it to be the next thing that they decide to fuck up just for the sake of it.

Like in 10 or 20 years?

I’m so happy scammers won’t have (hopefully) a cheap way to send the spam newspapers anymore, rejoice, nobody was really really reading a printed newspaper in the last decade (at least not more than 5% of the population)

apart from that, I was really intrigued by the post sending me a postcard to tell me that someone sent me a letter without the stamp, so if I want ot receive it I have to pay 1.2 CHF and confirm the payment… but they forgot to tel me who… (ok, perhaps there was no information) so it’s an evil way for scammers to abuse the system, but think of it, someone on the other corner of the Switzerland (Vevey) wrote me the postcard… even though I have a post.ch app account

We receive the local journal “La Cöte” five days a week. Don’t assume too much.

You can’t park your Planzer van there!

Luckily for the driver, he jumped out before the van slid down the slope.
The van was a write-off and I suspect any flat-screen TVs and boxes of wine are probably done for too.

In Vorderthal, Schwyz.
