Swiss post office never delivers my mail!!!!

Hello everyone

I was very patient until now, but this is it, they really crossed the line. I had my first bad experience with the swiss post office last month, when I sent a 10kg package from Spain to Zurich. I was moving to Switzerland and I could not possibly take all my stuff onto the plane, so I thought it was a good idea. Warning, people!! it is not!! The pack had a tracking number so I was following it for two weeks, when I finally decided to call the spanish post. And what did I find out? That the package was sent back and waiting for me in Spain (for the record, I dont live there anymore), because when a swiss mail man delivered my package to my new home here, I was not AT home, so, they just sent it back without even leaving me ANY information that they tried to reach me (still fighting to get my pack sent to Zurich again).

Same happened with the phone I ordered from Orange. I was not at home (during office hours!!!!!) so they sent it back.

I tried to be smarter next time because I needed to get a medicine from my doctor in Spain, so I asked him to send it to my work address. Do you think I got it after two weeks? It is a medicine for Gods sake... In the meantime a friend of mine also sent me something, same story...

It is really incredible how bad the post here is!!! I would expect more from the spanish office to be lousy (with all due respect).

I feel a bit better now haha.

Any of you had a similar experience?

Usually they leave a little slip of paper in your mailbox and you have about a week to go and pick up the parcel / letter at the post office. They then return it to sender if nobody shows up this side. Works a dream in our area.

That is exactly what I expected they would have done...but since it happened already several times I think there has to be sth wrong with our mailman..

Does your name not match the name on the post box? That's the only reason I can think why this would happen more than once.

Have you spoken to the local post office? That would have been my first port of call.

i only had that issue when i first moved here and didnt realize your NAME must be on the box or they wont deliver. they dont deliver to the address, they deliver to the name AT the address. No name, no delivery, no reminder. (this is not an issue in the US... the mail is delivered to the address the letter's addressed to, irrespective of the name on the box or letter)

is your mailbox marked with your name? if it is, then i guess youve got a terrible letter carrier because i have had nothing but good experiences with the CH post since i put my name on the box.

Do you have your name on the mailbox and are registered there? Often the mailmen need to verify that the person lives there, otherwise it is indeed sent back.

I did, they say it is the fault of the spanish office, which is a total bulls**t. Lost my hope already, I had to make a complaint with the office there, and they have up to 60 days to decide what to do with my parcel...

Of course it matches...and yes, I am registered under that address.

We tried an experiment to test the mettle of the post office here a few years back. We were on holiday in the UK and sent a postcard to a friend of ours that lives in a small-ish village in the Berner Oberland. We didn't have her full address so we just addressed it...

Firstname Lastname (badly spelled )

Village

Switzerland

It was delivered within a week.

Even then you usually get one of those "Does anyone with this name live here?" notices on the door.

It's all a bit wierd. Do you have Postman Plod (NSFW/NSFC/NSFP) as your postie?

Apparently that's my guy!!

An yes, it is really weird

But the question still remains did you speak to the post office (if this isn't the first time, it would seem this is a logical course of action). Also, does your name appear on your mailbox?

I did reply to that. The swiss post claims it had to be a falut of the spanish one and yes, my name stands both on my mailbox and next to the bell button. I am also officially registered under this address since June.

If you have Nachos_84 on your post box, it probably wont get delivered.

But this is very odd. I normally get the slips as mentioned in prior posts, stating we tried to deliver, please take a days vacation or time out of work so you can collect your post when we are actually open.

I find the post system efficient enough, my issues tend to be with the senders of post not actually sending it, i.e. Credit Suisse regarding online banking or any actual statements so I can monitor my account. I have had neither for 2 years now, and just assumed Swiss banking secrecy laws were a little OTT.

If it got to your local sorting office / your door (check the tracking) then I don't see how it can be anyone's fault but the Swiss Post.

Does the tracking indicate that it was definitely with the Swiss post office? If it's gone via another company, then they might not put slips in your postbox (not sure if they're allowed) but often stick a notice on the door. I can imagine some crappy neighbour removing it.

This is bizarre - Post Office service is excellent here. I once received a post card sent to me with

Mademoiselle la jolie petite Odile + village on it, from Spain - got it 1 week later, with a smile?

I, too, find the Swiss Post service to be excellent. I have had several things make it to me even though the people in the US have neglected to put the postal code on it, etc. A package would not immediately get sent back, from what I know, it stays at the post office for a week for you to pick it up. I would say it is your postal carrier at fault, but apparently you had problems sending it to you at work as well, which I assume is not in the same neighborhood.

You have been most unfortunate, everyone I know say Swiss Post works well. We once bought an item that was damaged in the post, not sure if the sender did not pack well, anyway took to their office for inspection and they sent back to sender with comment not packed correctly, no extra charge to us or the sender.

If this kept happening to me, I would also get my mobile phone put in brackets after my name - hopefully either the courier or the post would phone you, though do not guarantee.

Let us know what happens. Good Luck

Or sometimes, just the name.

I have received mail sent to the wrong address, wrong town, and sometimes the wrong canton!

I did the same, sent one to myself with:

My Name

Switzerland

And received it no problem!
