Recently I ordered a camera bag online from a company in Geneva, and after I settled the bill (I paid through Swiss Post) they will send me the bag in package with Priority through Swiss Post. They gave me the confirmation number so I can always track the package through internet (the feature of 'track & trace' from Swiss Post).
It should have arrived in Monday 11, but I was not at home at that time so the package can not be delivered (I know it because I checked it through internet on Monday night). Normally when I was not around to take the package, they will leave a small post-it note on the mailbox informing me to take it from the nearest post office but there was none that time.
And this tuesday, I have been waiting the package to come and when I checked it through 'track & trace' the status has been changed to 'delivered'. How on earth the package has been delivered if I did not receive it, since the package needed signature to be taken? I called the post office and they gave me the simplest answer, that they can not do anything about it since it has been taken by someone (which is clearly not me) and that I have to wait 1-2 weeks for this matter to be resolved.
My question is, how on earth they deliver it by mistake? And if by any reason the package failed to show up, will Swiss Post reimburse my money?
I would check with your neighbours. They make have taken delivery of it for you. This has happened to me twice now.
Does track and trace say that the package was delivered to the "Ablegefach"? This means it was left in the big section of your mail box, which isn't locked and could have easily been stolen. In my line of work, we send out ADSL Modems and some are stolen after track and trace says they have been delivered to the "Ablegefach".
I would also check with the neighbours, but then again when my neighbours have taken something for me from the postman/lady they give it to me as soon as i get home, or when i next see them which is normally on the same day of the parcel arriving
@MarieZug: No, the status said 'delivered' and it was not possible to leave the package like that since it needed signature.

I would go around ask my neighbours if I'm not at home again today, but the thing is, I spent my whole day today (tuesday 12) at home just to wait the postman to come knocking at my door and deliver my package, but somehow he never came.
After couple phone calls, they confirmed that they have delivered the package to 'someone' and this 'someone' was definitely not me. He received the package, signed for it, and happy for it, while I was waiting like centuries for it.
I mean, how on earth they can send the package to someone else?? Can't they even look at the name in front of the house, or maybe in the mailbox?? If it was the same guy who sent it yesterday, then how come this time he did not recognize the same place and gave it to someone else??
Is it possible for me to reimburse the money I sent before (for purchasing the goodies) since this is clearly THEIR fault?
(I think I will stop buying goodies online for a while...)
I must admit, Swiss Post are very lax with where they leave parcels and identifying where signs for them.
As it is Track and Trace, this should be quite straight forward. Contact the company that sold you the item. Inform them someone else has misappropriated your packet. They should then fill out THIS FORM , so that Swiss Post can investigate the claim. The SENDER MUST COMPLETE THE FORM FOR INSURANCE TO APPLY.
One scary thing about the 'Free postage' from Digitec, is it is not registered.
I have recently had several items delivered worth several hundred chf's left sitting on the doorstep. Not sure what I could/would do if the package was stolen.
Since I had a similar experience with the Swiss post, I might be able to answer you on the reimbursement thing. If this parcel was sent via registered mail, then you can ask for compensation up to 500 CHF, though you need to proof that it was the Post's fault ( which obviously they don't admit to in your case).
If it wasn't registered, then to my knowledge they dont need ur signature in order to deliver it (someone correct me if wrong).
Finally, if your parcel is indeed registered and they claim that someone signed and got it, then ask them to see the signature of this person, they should have it electronically.
The problem with those electronic hand-terminals is that it's very easy to sign with any illegible scrawl. I usually can't even recognize my own signature. And they don't ask for ID.
@nasa2000: What does it mean by registered mail? So far, I am still hoping to receive the package back, but with patiences running out, I think I will need to have some reimbursement.
They do send me a PDF file with name and signature of the receiver of the package, which is clearly not me, and I have told them thousand times I am not the guy who signed the package and I have different signatures. Do you think this will be enough to prove their mistakes?
Lemodz, a registered mail is a mail which requires the receiver's signature in order for the item to be delivered, not like the ordinary mail when he can just drop it in ur mail box, thats why its often used to send important stuff, like ur bank sending you your credit card or so.
Prove their mistake ? I guess they will never admit to it, they believe they did the right thing. I wouldn't put high hopes on reimbursement, but you can give it a try of course.
Couldn't you recognize the name of the reciever from his signature ? match the name with the names on the mail boxes in your building block, maybe it gives you a clue( assuming he was honest and signed in his true name)
It is a registered mail, it requires a signature to be received, and I never had problems like this in the past, and I don't know why it happened now.
I tried to re-check the name of the receiver with all my neighbours in the same building but I did not get any clue, and I even knock at every door asking if this 'person' exists.
Well, I can't agree sending package to another person which is supposed for me is 'the' right thing...

This thread confirms my view that Swiss Post (and even FedEx and UPS) are quite a bit lax when it comes to delivering registered mail. On three occasions, my neighbours have received my registered mail for me but have kindly then put it in my mailbox or put the package on my doorstep. Once, FedEx even delivered my package to a small business across the street, and left a note in my mailbox to tell me where my package was. Luckily for me, my neighbours seem to be honest people.
If you have received proof that someone else signed for your package, you should ask Swiss Post to investigate. They should be able to question the postman who delivered the package and find information on who he delivered the package to.
You should also inform the company from which you purchased the camera bag to inform them that you have not received the package. They may have taken out insurance on the bag in case of events like this where the package goes missing. Request that they help you out with this matter because you, as the consumer, have not actually received what you have paid for.
Otherwise, check your invoice to see if perhaps you may have incidentally paid for insurance as part of the postage and handling costs.
I had this were someone ( i think the driver) signed for a few 000 sfr of hard disks and left them on my door. The first i knew was that my Credit card was billed, when i asked them why they said they were signed for.. to cut a long store short, when i say "my" signature i could see it was not me.. Swiss post paid the whole amount, by now my postman is not happy
Is does make you wonder though - how often are people actually at home during the day to receive packages or registered mail? I would guess that the majority of the time, the postman will often find that no one is at home and will (ideally) have to leave a note in the mailbox.
I think it would be great if deliveries could be attempted outside of working hours, maybe after working hours because I have been woken once at 6am for a delivery! At least a few seconds of embarrassment saved me a trip to line up at the post office.
NO, i didn't get reimbursed so far, I am still trying with them, and receiving nothing from them but silly replies.
I'd also suggest that you contact the company who sent you the item, and tell them you didn't receive it, they should investigate it themselves as well with the post, a friend of mine lost some DVDs he ordered online, and the company was too generous and sent them once more for him.
I always paid insurance when posting goods of value until one day I decided, nah, this is Switzerland! and I returned a newly purchased faulty computer back to Brack. It never arrived. I complained at the post office and they gave me an investigation (Rückfrage?) form to fill in. The reply was that it had been "delivered". Period. Nevertheless, there still is a sum they will pay out. I don't recall how much.

After countless hours in phone and e-mails, just this morning, a postman came and delivered my camera bag, and the reason why it got delivered to someone else was because the address was wrong.
As I recalled, I gave my address correctly to the company where I purchased the bag, and I even double checked with them, so I guess either the guy in the shop wrote wrong address or the postman did not read it very well, and it still amaze me though...
