I found this article a bit shocking. Although, I have seen doner kebab prices from CHF 6.00 now going for CHF 21… Not so different for pizzas … The quality of the food has not changed much, specially for kababs …

Life is expensive around here, but looking a the number makes everything clear.
A single adult with income less than 72.5K/year is part of the lower middle class (2.3 million people) which is under financial pressure. Also, the unexpected 2’500 Francs bill happens to be equal to the max deductible of health insurance. So, another way to put this is that a lot of people can’t afford to use the health insurance.
BTW, the definition of middle class in Switzerland is gross income (before taxes and social deductions) between 70% and 150% of the median gross income.
The article focused on the stress of middle class, I guess it’s worse when people don’t reach the 70% of median income.
There are normal kebabs for 11-12 CHF and luxury kebabs for 20+ CHF like the one on Zurich HB for rich expats and tourists. They exist simultaneously. Kebabs at normal down-to-earth restaurants won’t cost 21 CHF in the next years.
Gone are the days of the house wife and the man and the kids would come home for lunch.
