Now I've heard about but never seen Swiss Whisky or sometimes known as Swiskey , I know there are about 5 different distilleries here so I was wondering whether anyone has tried any and is there a recommended one to go for? or is this a novelty thing to get out when Scottish friends visit
Yup, I have got a Single Malt Lakeland Whisky from 'Zürcher Brennerei' in Port it's 3 years old and it's very sought after, coz the Distillery win's prizes for their creations on all the big fairs and exhibitions of the trade.
It's three years old and it has an amiable taste, i mean I am fan of stuff such as Ardbegh,Lagavullin and Talisker, the smokier the peatier and oiier the better.
The Lakeland Whisky in this comparison is IMHO a good starter whisky for beginners, it has a slight hint of vanilla and toffee amongst others,is sort of fine tuned, and not burning in your throat.
I like it
Btw, this distillery also makes wonderful clear schnaps, out of all kind of fruits, very recommendable!
You sum it up right there. I also have a couple of young Swiss whiskies and my take on it is that it's been bottled way too early. 3 years simply isn't enough time to develop true character and the abv probably wouldn't make it cask strength even if it's straight from the wood.
Steve's Linth whisky at the Rappi brewery is very good and is getting quite old now - about 8 I think - but of course it is made from the Maze beer so isn't strictly whisky as it contains adjuncts - but having said that, it's better than the other Swiss attempts I've tried.
All is not lost - there is a fantastic whisky club in Switzerland - a branch of the Ediburgh club - and it can be found here . Many cask strength whiskies unavailable elsewhere. The Cao Ila is just dreamy.
maybe you are thinking of the Whiskyschiff. Not exactly a trip as the ships are moored, but its a great tasting event and they also organise courses. Very enjoyable and good value for money.
