I have an apartment in 1844 and up until this month received lots of English tv via Naxoo. It is now no longer available so I am thinking of switching to Swisscom. I have a Swisscom landline and wireless router for the Internet. Am I making a good choice? I am 74 and only visit the apartment a few months a year so there is zero usage for at least 6 months. Will I get good reception? Anyone out there live in Montreux and use Swisscom tv?
If I opt for Swisscom would I need installation help?
I don't live in Montreux, but would expect you would have no problem with reception in a town such as Montreux.
That being said, it's going to end up being expensive if you leave it unused for 6 months/year.
As far as I can tell (and you would need to go to Swisscom to check this out):
Swisscom Landline: 25 CHF
DSL mini (minmum internet access - ok for email, occasional browsing, but not much else 2M/200k): 34 CHF
Swisscom TV Basic: 21 CHF
Total around 80 CHF/month
For installation, if your phone outlet is reasonably close to where your TV is, you're reasonable comfortable plugging cables around, you could do it yourself.
My telephone point is not near the tv and I do not wish to move the tv. Cabling would be ugly - one side of a big window to the other, - but Swisscom want to sell me two black boxes which they say will solve my problem. I place one by the router/telephone point and one by wherever I put the tv. Is this a good one off at 199 CHF. Seems expensive to me. Can I get similar boxes elsewhere, cheaper? Second hand?
Anyone able to advise? May I remind you I am 74 and certainly not into new gadgetry!
Hi Clive, we got this multiroom thing too, they charged us 10chf a month for it but I don't think we paid up front for it. We are in jongny just up the road.
Swisscom TV reception is very good, I have had it for five years or more now, never any problems.
Cabling... the cable they provided me after my last move is very thin, it's really unobtrusive if you run it round the outside of the room along the base of the walls.
As mentioned above, the price is the main issue if you are only there for a few months of the year.
