According to the London Evening Standard, Six countries including Switzerland, Ireland. Italy, Alaska ( USA ), Japan & New Zealand are offering immigrants, including the Brits relocation grants to emigrate, live and work in their countries.
That’s news from 2019. Not enough happening in the world for you?
edit: I knew this story from back then but you inspired me to look it up again. Unfortunately there is no real update on it how things are today but their website(s) look like they’re still active and well.
One thing which is quiet fascinating/special: Before there was a road between Albinen and Leukerbad, they used ladders to get back and forth. Those ladders still exist - for tourists. You may not understand what’s said in the video but the pictures give an impression. They say it’s not for you if you’re not free from giddiness
Probably an infrastructure is not sufficient. I remember Quinten on Walensee tried to attract more families in a same way, because they had only one girl in the village who had to go to school across the lake every morning by ship and she was upset because she had no other kids in the village. Water route is an only access to the village, no road access. But you cannot say that living on Walensee is not nice. It is just a very special experience, not for everyone.
Leukerbad is one of my favourite places in Switzerland. Albinen might be a dream location for holiday home. And if someone works in Lonza, they get to work under an hour by public transport, faster by car. People are living in much more remote and less picturesque locations with worse public transport. Don’t know that is the reason, because Lonza is constantly hiring and people need a place to live.
Well I don’t know about the others, but the list of island offered in Ireland are definatel places you would not want to be in Feb or March. Sitting out in the Atlantic with absolutely no shelter is not a good idea. Not to mention that you could be cut of for months.
The headline is a bit misleading when it comes to Alaska. The state (and the USA) aren’t offering grants or bonuses for people to move there AFAIK. It’s just that one can qualify for the oil fund dividend paid to all Alaska residents after being resident for one year. I have friends who moved to Alaska. Most left. One stayed and has a nice life and family there. It is not the easiest life.
