Switzerland to Tenerife- cheap flights?

One daughter has just moved to Tenerife and has invited us to stay in November. Been trying to find cheap flights - but no luck so far. Very expensive and none direct. Any bright ideas anybody? (NO, times are hard, but I ain't swimming it).

Not sure if this will help you in your quest:

Thanks will have a look. I've already looked at so many compare sites- so expensive and most of the time with an overnight stop in Paris or Spain.

Was hoping somebody who has done the journey from CH could advise on company and airport they used. Flights are much cheaper it seems in January, so we might have to postpone - but I can't wait to see where my youngest now lives.

How about via UK ?

Monarch and Easyjet ( from 16th December from Basel ) might be worth looking up.

Thanks. Found flights with EasyJ from Basel in January for 369CHF for 2 return. But leaving very early in the morning. How easy is it to get to Basel/Mulhouse/Freiburg airport??? Or does anybody know of a cheap place to stay overnight near airport?

There are a few threads such as this:

Neuchatel to Basel Airport - my flight is too early!

www.kayak.co.uk or www.skyscanner.net tend to be the best for searching everything

Seems zurich is bad for direct flights to typical european holiday destinations - we are holiday searching now and having to do stop offs to go to places 3 hours flight away and taking 7 hours

Most flights with Swiss cost about CHF 500 per person return.

There are cheaper flights using holiday chartered planes: http://www.abschweiz.ch/ but these seem to be about CHF 400 pp return.

I have used this company OK, http://www.billig-reise.ch/ch/result...t/TFS/fstops/0

It looks as though it will cost about CHF 500 for 2 persons. Your best bet might be to try your local travel agent and stay near your daughter in a cheap hotel.

Thanks Ittigen- will look at those links. Accommodation there is no problem as we can stay with them. Will just go away for a couple of days in middle to give them a bit of 'space'. Fortunately we get on really well with her partner.

My husband and I travel to Tenerife two or three times a year. We travel from Geneva to Tenerife via Madrid with Iberia. The return fare for us both is about CHF850. Plane leaves Geneva at 08.20, stop of just one hour in Madrid, and then arrival in Tenerife at 14.30, just in time for lunch! Civilised return trip departures too!

We flew ZH to Gran Canaria last year with Air Berlin, there are then plenty of cheap shuttle flights and ferries to the other islands.

I know several Dutch people who've gone to tenerife via amsterdam, and they're all rather thrifty. I'm not sure if it was KLM or a charter, however. Of course, you'd have to go via Schipol.

Have you tried hipmunk.com for flights?

Also, we've stayed near the Basel Airport - in France, I think, but it had a German sounding name. The Captain Hotel or something like that, pretty cheap.

We used ebookers.ch to find the hotel

Thanks all. It seems will will go with EasyJet from Basel but In January as flights so much cheaper. They start the route mid Dec. only.

Will try and find a B&B where we can leave the car whilst we are away.

Edit: flights booked for early Jan - CHF 379 for 2 return all in- will just have to find a B&B or Hotel nearby with free or cheap parking. Thanks all.

Thanks edot - they are right next to the airport and have a free shuttle running from 4am. 72E for double room, 8.50E for breakfast (served from 4.00am) but mainly FREE PARKING FOR 15 DAYS. Brilliant.
