Tacos Plaza, just opened in Zurich

I'm not a Mexican food expert, but I went in this new place last night and I loved it. It's at Escherwyssplatz, in between the Kebab place and the Italian restaurant. It's owned by a young Mexican guy called Gerado and he has a couple of sweet young lasses helping him.

I'll be going in again soon with some Mexican friends and Mexican food snobs so will report back again about how good it really is. It only opened 2 weeks ago and I really hope they make it (it's on my route home!)

Website doesn't have much on it yet, but their FB page has a bit more info. If you go let me know what you think!

Since this doesn't warrant a thread of its own I add it here:

For the coming two months, what this plug in the Tagesanzeiger calls authentic tacos will be available at the Central Bar in Zürich. Not sure how close to the truth is, but it says the temporary chefs have their roots in high-end gastronomy so supposedly you can expect good food.

They open tomorrow. For opening hours check the bar's website (see bottom of the page). One taco will set you back 5 chuffs, they also sell mexican icecream and some drinks.

Genuine tacos are antithetical to high-end gastronomy. That's what makes genuine tacos so awesome.

Who said the products are high-end gastronomy?

Somebody a few posts back implied that a chef with a background in high-end gastronomy might make an equivalent taco to a shithole, authentic taco-stand proprietor.

Anyone with any feedback on how good the food is?

Well your post sort of indicated a connection.

I've been a few times in the evening and I like the food, atmosphere and friendly service (but they do know me very well now as I've also been helping them with their beer selection). But, a friend tried it at lunch time for take away and there was a big queue of students from the college over the road and he wasn't so impressed.

Another friend (who used to live in Mexico) had guacamole poured over her tacos - apparently in Mexico you have the sauces on the side. She told them to stop and the girl serving explained that Swiss customers expect them like that. So if you want authentic Mexican style Tacos tell them first.

They have 3 chilli sauces. Mild, medium (which I find ample) and another they make from dried chillies they import themselves. I tried a few drops on one Taco. I couldn't talk or stop shaking for 15 minutes

Sorry if I misunderstood you, I guess?

I didn't say they'd do high-end cuisine or produce high-end food, just that one can expect good food. I guess it would be asking a bit much in a bar, i.e. not even a proper restaurant, that has this offer for just two months.

I have been, and I know Gerardo too, he's done a fantastic job, especially as he did this all with a new addition to his family. The food is pretty good, its a Taqueria so its fast food, order of the day is definitely a plate of Tacos washed down with a Mexican Cerveza.
