Tahini, coconut oil tumeric

Hello, looking for these things here in Zurich. Anyone, know where i can get them, the local migros and coop dont have them. thanks

Barkat is your best first stop for all of this

I have certainly brought Turmeric (Kurkuma) and Tahini in Migros in both Bern & Interlaken, you might just need to go to a bigger store maybe as I doubt that Züri is less cosmopolitan than either of those places!

Turmeric & Coconut oil - Aggarwal indian grocery- Where Langstrasse meets the Kanzleiplatz

There is another Indian Subcontinent Shop , at the crossing of Josefstr & Langstr. Also good.

For tahini I would concur with "anowheels" on Barkat or other Middle Eastern/ Turkish stores.

I am confident the Turkish supermarket "EGE Market", Josefstrasse 53 in Zürich carries all three items.

Another Indian Shop,

SK Trading GmbH

Gasometerstrasse 31, 8005 Zürich

And there is an Indian shop in Rapperswil.

Tahini is available at all health stores, Reformhaus.

Tumeric is available in Coop, in the spice section - Kurkuma

Is kokosfett the same thing as coconut oil? Because I have seen it being sold in both migros and coop in the oil section. Its in a white tub with a coconut on it. I don't believe it is cold pressed though, and if anyoneknows where I can find cold pressed coconut oil in Zurich, I would be very grateful.

The key is that you want coconut oil that is not hydroginated. The coop oil/fett in the tubs in coop and migros is hydroginated.

If you are looking for coconut oil for health and beauty and not for cooking purposes, i would suggest the local Reformhaus. It costs about 4x the price but the quality is amazing and tastes great!

Any larger Reformhaus, but very, very expensive!

I would have thought that Kokosfett is not Coconut oil, but apparently it is....

This is a solid form of coconut oil, used for deep-fat frying. Probably not quite what you're looking for!

Aren't all forms of coconut oil solid under a certain temperature?

Thank you. what is expensive? How much should I expect to spend? (approximately)

The stuff sold in 450g pots as coconut fat in the supermarkets is recommended for use as a replacement for the lard or oil normally use for frying (deep or shallow). Judging by the pictograms on the pot it could also be used for baking. It's cheap, and is a solid white mass.

Really depends what the OP want's coconut oil for; I remember when it was used as sun-tan oil, and definitely came as a liquid, in a bottle.

Thanks for all the replies. The coconut oil i used to get in ireland was an extra virgin cold pressed one. it also came in a plastic jar and under a certain temp its solid, over about 30 C it turns to liquid.

Found these two by googling. Otherwise one of the bigger department stores with an international food section might stock it, or a good pharmacy?

A

I just got some virgin cold-pressed coconut oil from Vital Punkt in Zurich on Stockerstrasse- it's a 200g jar I think it was CHF 7.30

like others said- both migros and co-op have turmeric in their regular spice sections

The reformhaus in the HB has virgin coconut oil (2 brands, both very good) and tahini- the tahini is Rapunzel brand (they also make a bunch of nut butters).

Are you near Meierhofplatz? The reformhaus and the bio shop there both have them as well.

The Asian Market in the HB has fresh tumeric root as well.

The above statement is incorrect.

Coop and Migros Kokosfett is a refined coconut oil and it is NOT hydrogenated .

All coconut oils, whether refined or cold pressed, turn solid under about 25°C.

You can buy all in Jemoli.

For cooking I use the Coconut oil for the reformhaus but it is round 20-30chf a jar! But I have now found Jemoli has it cheaper in the 'rest of the world' section.

Hope you find everything!
