I am looking for someone to make me a Guggenmusik Fasnacht costume (zipped jacket, trousers, sleeveless over-coat with buttons and tail).
I have all the materials, template patterns and VERY specific instructions to follow. It just needs to be sized to me. I have no sewing machine and no talent for such stuff.
Ideally someone around Zürich or Pfäffikon SZ. I'd pay of course.
Any recommendations?
I wish I could help, but my sewing skills aren’t so great.
If you can’t find anyone through here, maybe you could try this place:
https://www.art-schneiderei.ch/
It says that they also sew costumes.
Good luck!
This is a great help!! I emailed them.
I realise I didn't google "Schneiderei", how silly!! Thank you!
A few years ago I accidentally ended up experiencing a sort of "Fasnacht Costume festival" in Langenthal BE in November which (as it was explained to me) was a market for people who make Fasnacht costumes to show their wares/skills and connect with potential customers. If your Swiss-German google skills are up to scratch (mine aren't ) you might be able to find where this festival/market will be held this autumn. Apparently it takes place every year, but can change location.
If you want to have a typical "Slightly Bizarre and a bit Over the Top" Fasnacht costume I think it would be worth making an extra effort to find a Fasnacht costume specialist. Speaking as an experienced sewer, your typical local seamstress/tailor who specializes in alterations might struggle a bit with a Fasnacht costume pattern if it is complicated.
A Google search for „Fastnacht“, „Markt“ and „Langenthal“ yielded this result

On October 21 in Langenthal
Thanks Carlasmom! I honestly didn't even try to google it.
To the OP, you should definitely attend this festival in Langenthal: it is super fun, and you would definitely be able to find someone to help you with your costume!
Funny story: I stumbled upon this festival during the a wedding reception of some good friends. The poor couple whose marriage I was attending had no idea their black-tie wedding celebration was taking place at the exact same day, location, and time as what was basically ground zero for a Fasnacht costume festival in central Langenthal, including lots of live Fasnacht bands, drinking, and general Fasnacht-type revelry and mischief. They were "Pachelbel’s -Canon-in-D-on-the-Pipe-Organ" type of people who ended up with "Covers-of-Abba-Classics-Played-On-Out-of-Tune-Sousaphones" instead.
I loved it, but my friends were less amused than I was...
Probably not the thread to do this...but I have a load of costumes and masks from doing Basel Fasnacht for many years. If you need anything specific then PM me.
Cheers,
Nick
Thanks everyone for the input. The Fasnacht festival looks interesting! Although none of the exhibitors are in Zurich.
It needs to be a specific costume to match the rest of the band, with the materials and patterns provided. So I can’t buy/borrow another costume, but thanks for the offers.
I am now in contact with the lovely Sonia ( https://www.art-schneiderei.ch/ ) and she will do this for me. She seems very nice and her shop is round the corner from me, nice and easy. THANKS!
Woohoo. Now the small task of learning all the pieces to play and building up stamina for the intense Fasnacht program…
