I posted this a while back, but in the wrong category, so I never got an answer.
Is it considered offensive to get cantonal or local symbols (flags or parts of flags), such as the Bern bear? I understand some people are offended by tattoos in general, but I wasn't sure if this would be something more controversial. Is the public of the mind that things like canton and city crests are something special and shouldn't be worn or tattooed.
Just bear in mind that as long as you live in Switzerland you will have to live with some teasing about a tatoo of this kind, especially if you choose the "Mutz".
Good-hearted teasing that is, because we love to make fun of other cantons even if we like them. Bern for example is almost universally liked in Switzerland, not because of its status as a capital but because people are chillled, and nobody takes Bern seriously enough to be a competitor to another city (such as Geneva, Zürich, Basel rivalry) A bit like Luzern, most people like it even if they consider it a backwater full of lazy drunks.
But to answer your question: No, it's most certainly not offensive and will provide plenty of reasons for banter and discussions.
There over the years were numerous T-shirts with the flag-colours of Zürich, a part of them referring to the two leading football-clubs FC-GC and FCZ. I just found that there was a T-Shirt with this picture on it
proving of course that Zürich is the mother of modesty
