Tattoo of Cantonal Symbols?

I posted this a while back, but in the wrong category, so I never got an answer.

Is it considered offensive to get cantonal or local symbols (flags or parts of flags), such as the Bern bear? I understand some people are offended by tattoos in general, but I wasn't sure if this would be something more controversial. Is the public of the mind that things like canton and city crests are something special and shouldn't be worn or tattooed.

Cheers,

A

If it's good enough for Gölä...

The feeling now is that Tattoos are becoming un cool.

Who apart from Blocher, would want a Swiss flag as a tattoo? Madness!

I thought they always were!

Just bear in mind that as long as you live in Switzerland you will have to live with some teasing about a tatoo of this kind, especially if you choose the "Mutz".

Good-hearted teasing that is, because we love to make fun of other cantons even if we like them. Bern for example is almost universally liked in Switzerland, not because of its status as a capital but because people are chillled, and nobody takes Bern seriously enough to be a competitor to another city (such as Geneva, Zürich, Basel rivalry) A bit like Luzern, most people like it even if they consider it a backwater full of lazy drunks.

But to answer your question: No, it's most certainly not offensive and will provide plenty of reasons for banter and discussions.

Some inspiration:

The only canton flag tattoo worth having is this:

It pays to be a pale Brit for this tattoo.

We don't have to compete with the other cantons. We are unique

Unless you're from Fribourg of course.

I've heard rumours that those commies up in Jura don't like Bern either.

You might as well have "stupid" tatooed on your forehead then

Jura? Are you talking about our former colonies?

When I lived in Vaud, I had the canton abbreviation tattoed across my chest in big bold text.

i thought it would make me a hit with the ladies, but they aparently aren't fans of the French speaking regions.

Having said that, I haven't had much more success since I moved to Basel.

As opposed to L...A...N...G...S...A...M?

There over the years were numerous T-shirts with the flag-colours of Zürich, a part of them referring to the two leading football-clubs FC-GC and FCZ. I just found that there was a T-Shirt with this picture on it

proving of course that Zürich is the mother of modesty

Yep, us Jurassiennes are not too keen on the Mutzli- but not all of us are commies

Here's a secret:

Women are more turned on by alphorns than by cantonal symbols.

I though we were talking about tatoos

Saw a guy in Luzern with an extensible one recently. Clever that (oops sorry, I am leaving NOW).
