tax and pension on ad hoc helper/babysitter

Dear all,

My husband and I plan to hire an ad hoc helper maybe for 1 month only. Her primary job is to pick up our dauther from school, take her home and maybe do some cleaning. Every weeek, we will make sure the total hours are less than 8 hours.

I searched on this forum. It says a lot of things like mandatory AHV and insurance for nanny. But those items seem to be applied to live-in Nanny which I understand we need to register that person with SECO and pay the insurance and pension for her because it is a full time job.

What obligations do we have for the ad hoc helper? The people responding our ads now, one is non-EU B permit holder who told us no insurance needs to be covered for her. she has been doing this for several other employers.

and the other one is a school student pursing master degree and wants to earn some pocket money, she does not know anything about the insurance and tax.

Pay your babysitter through a service like Quitt, they will ensure that the admin stuff - including deducting taxes - is done correctly.

Quitt.ch is the way to go indeed for short term employment. For longer term it may be easier to do the direct process but that varies in each canton.

Lianglele, here is a summary from Quitt explaining some of the regs around employing an occasional babysitter:

Pay special attention to the issue of accident insurance.
