Tax declaration with Visa B?

Hello!

I have a B visa and pay taxes at source (calculated and paid by my company). My salary is less than 120k (yah, not a bad senior R&D electronics/embedded industrial systems engineer with years of experience, but still not rich, such is life).

As far as I know, I only must file a tax declaration if "total family income is more than 120k", so no question: the income is less than 120k, I don't file anything.

But last year my wife started receiving a salary. She also has a B visa, so she also pays taxes at source. But it seems that everything together makes our income more than 120k (around 125k).

I did not send any tax declaration for 2023 (I still pay from source and did not ask to change this mode).

The question is:

Should I do anything immediately? Or should I just wait for a letter from the tax office regarding the difference between "already paid" and "must be paid" and pay it? Do I have any problems?

Thank you.

Call the tax office and ask them to send you the documentation.

B permit, by the way.

I don't think so - if both you and your wife pay taxes at source on a B permit, no need to file a tax declaration.

If you made additional pension pillar 2 or pillar 3a contributions, or pay for daycare, it is advantageous to you to file a tax declaration.

It appears that the OP is resident in Canton Aargau. In this canton the income of the marriage partners is not counted together for purposes of the 120’000 threshold. A mandatory ordinary tax filing should not be required based on the facts presented.

Thank you very much !!!!

Yes, Aargau.

Sure, Permit B

I'm going to change my tax mode and start to file a tax declaration. Pillar 2/3a is one of the reasons.
