Last year we made a decision to really go on the breadline and save like mad as job markets are unclear and we cut back on literally everything. No holidays, no eating out, removed all things we don’t need and changed our habits dramatically. Our salaries are reasonable and we were able to save about 65K.
Filing a tax return my tax accountant is jumping up and down asking where it came from as the tax office will ask a whole load of question and almost hinting I should say it was for a old debt being paid back or something else.
Is it that unusual for people to save in CH?
It as if she doesn’t believe me…
Anyone else had a similar by just really cutting back dramatically saved money and the tax man comes for you?
But it should be visible in your banking system, that you kept most of the income and had very little expenses last year. Can’t you prove it with the list of your bank transactions? Why do you have to lie?
Strange accountant, for a couple it is quite normal saving, i don’t think any tax man will come. Always did my taxes myself, and also did some errors (they just correct, no issues), and sudden savings declared no one cared
This wouldn’t work anyway - a debt owing to you should be declared as part of your assets for wealth tax purposes so if you suddenly invented one you might be in line for non-declaration penalties.
I had a couple of years like that in the past (2020 was one I believe). Never had any problem.
I’m curious if you will ever come back to your “old ways” or this one year “training” will permanently influence your “purposeful/intentional spending” skill
I don’t believe the tax authorities will mention it, if they do you can tell them you saved your wife’s salary! Assuming your salary is enough to cover rent etc there is absolutely no reason to query anything.
If you have a tax filler advising you to lie on a tax return, get yourself a new tax filler… when those kind of fillers get caught, a large percentage of the tax returns the filled will be audited.
With the job markets the way they are I’m not taking anything for granted anymore. Plus I’m fed up of being a corporate slave so it’s time to reinvest as much as I can instead of fritter it away.
Like I said it’s actually not hard. I found some great places to eat out which are not expensive and can be creative with orders. No wine…
Holidays are motorcycling and camping or staying in a cheap b&b. Fabulous!
Not going skiing for a week was hard though but we might find a way to make that work
