Tax rebate without final tax statement

Zurich tax office just wrote to me asking for my Swiss bank account info as I'm due a tax rebate, however I've not yet had the final tax statement for 2020 to which this rebate relates.

In terms of background, they'd queried a few bits on it before Xmas and I'd sent in a massive load of bank statements (UK and Swiss) as evidence after which I got a further letter indicating that I didn't need to complete an additional return as most of my major life items are in UK (i.e. my wife and kids I commute over regularly) and heard nothing more until the letter today asking for the bank account info to refund.

Is this normal in terms of process - I'm assuming (and this is a guess obviously) that I expect the final tax statement before the refund so I can at least check the amount before it hits the bank account? I didn't want to just assume what my account said was due a refund actually lands

Sorry for the dumb question but 2020 was the first full tax year when I worked over here so I'm somewhat of a newbie.

Take what you can now, then query it

I used to get the money often before the notification.

Now using e-bill so the notification comes first and 30 days later the cash (time to send in a letter if you do not agree).

Make sure it IS the Zürich tax office!

Fair point. I have to add the bank details when I file my taxes. No idea if you can file without that, at least when doing this online?

I did mine through an accountant and it was all sent off by post I'm pretty sure I was never asked for my bank info before sending it off and I dont see it on the copy of the return I have here. They obviously have all my bank account details here for the wealth tax calculation but nothing to indicate anything about payments that I can see.

Many people have multiple bank accounts and like to choose in which account to receive refunds.

That's what I wondered to be fair - plus the other account listed on there is my rent deposit account and I definitely wouldn't want anything hitting that.

You can easily take it out of your rent deposit account as the account belongs to you.

The account has to remain in credit to the amount of the guarantee, any excess is yours to use as you see fit

Ah I didn't actually know that thanks for the info.

FYI to all it definitely came from the tax office unless someone else had access to my AVH and other data as that's printed on the letter. I've sent back the info to them today via registered post so let's see what happens
