Tax Returns online! Zurich

After one sends it off to the tax office can one still change the details if one has made a mistake with the calculations?

Yes

You can change until you get the final bill, usually takes a year or two “Schlussrechnung”

If you cannot change it online then you can phone or send a letter.

One time I found they made an error that save me arounf CHF 1,000 but I declared it when I noticed it.
They said it was after the “Schlussrechnung” so too late to change

Does one have to declare how much money is in a bank in Australia? If so ist it taxable here in CH.? As I understand it what one has in a foreign bank is not taxable here?

You should declare it and the amounts form part of your taxable wealth. If you receive interest, that would be taxable income too. Although you might get some relief if it was already tax in Australia.

Income in Australia is not taxable here. Its simply used to calculate the Tax Rate. But it seems that money in a bank account in Australia is taxable here.

As a Swiss resident, all liquid assets worldwide are taxable. As for income that depends upon any treaty, if existing, with associated country.

  • Once you live in any country, everything (world-wide) is taxable there.
  • Anything less, is up to the country you live in.
  • In Switzerland, they are kind enough not to tax anything related to real-estate abroad (rents and wealth are not taxed, but have to be declared though). It may increase your tax rate but this is usually negligeable.
  • Money in bank and shares etc are taxed here regardless of bank country, although for small amounts it is likely the tax to be zero.
  • Other income (even salaries, etc) are also taxed here, but agreements between countries may reduce the amount due. It is irrelevant if Australia has already kept some tax at source (if anything, in some cases it is australia that has to refund you and switzerland to tax you).
